aortic valve opens when pressure in LV greater than in aorta.
Before it opens - contraction is isovolumetric.
Incr afterload means incr pressure in aorta and pulm artery.

these two option are not mutually exclusive.. 3 n four both are happenin.. brs pg 90.... increase in the afterload decrease sv.. o mean how can it not .. even the contractility is not changin... n plus ya it incresea the duration of IVC also..

The initial phase of the contraction is isometric; the elastic component in series with the contractile element is stretched, and tension increases until it is sufficient to lift the load. The tension at which the load is lifted is the afterload. The muscle then contracts isotonically without developing further tension. In vivo, the preload is the degree to which the myocardium is stretched before it contracts and the afterload is the resistance against which blood is expelled. ( Ganong Pg 572 ed.22)

Thus if u increase the Afterload the contraction will increase as the muscle fibers r stretched. I hope thats the reason.
