Hi I have a few queries for which i could not find a solution in the website. Please help with the following I had my slot Oct-06 to Dec-06. My extended eligibility period expires on March 31st 2007. I am scheduled to take my exam on 20 th March 2007 Testing Center-Bangalore,Testing Region-India. Due to personal reasons I cannot take up the exam. A 1) What happens if i will be absent for the exam without prior intimation to Prometric? 2) In case of the above will it amount to irregular behaviour? 3) What will it be recorded as in my ECFMG File? 4) Will it be considered an attempt? B 1) What happens if I cancel my appointment 1 week prior to to my scheduling date? 2) In the above question, What will it be recorded in my ECFMG File? a 3) Will cancelling my appointment be considered as an attempt? C 1) Since my Form-186 has already been accepted, if I reapply for the Step-1 after 60 days, Should I go through the whole registration process from the beginning once again or is an online registration enough? Hoping for a prompt and clear solution for my problem. Thanking you Yours sincerely, mavdoc

I dont Much abt not appearing without informing Prometric but i can say any informed cancellation will not cause a problem for u later onwards. u HAVE TO APPLY ONCE WITH ALL UR DOCUMENTS NEXT TIME JUST SEND UR FORM 186 N THEY ACCEPT IT. BUT I STRONGLY CAUTION & SUGGEST U THAT DONT TAKE OUR KNOWLEDGE AS THE FINAL LAW OR TAKE ANY FINAL DECISION BASED ON PAST EXPERIENCE U PLZ PLZ DO CALL DIRECTLY ECFMG & PROMETRIC SO THAT THEY CAN INFORM U OF ANY NEW LAW OR INFORMATION WHICH HAS COME INTO EFFECT OR IN PRACTICE THESE DAYS

I understand the difficulty! I too did not face the exam even after obtaining the extension. I never scheduled the appointment with Prometric at all and after the eligibility period expired, I received a letter from ECFMG stating that my EP had expired and I was not eligible for any refund. Now whether this has gone into my records, yes, ECFMG will have it on record that I applied once, but did not take the exam. But it does NOT count as an attempt at least. Only if you go in and attempt the exam will it get recorded... at least that's what I would like to believe. I do not know about it being recorded as irregular behaviour.. if someone else does, do chip in. In any case, I don't think you should worry yourself... just cancel the appointment with Prometric. The Certificate of Identification form is valid for a period of five years, so when you reapply, you only need to fill up the on-line application and pay the fees. Hope this helps... I would still suggest you call the ECFMG, even if it is an international call and confirm for yourself. Good luck!

Hey Mavdoc, I just called ECFMG and asked your questions. Here are the answers: Only ECFMG will have it on record that you applied for the exam and did not take it. They will not provide it to the programs when you apply for residency. It does not show up on your transcript. It will not be considered irregular behaviour to not take the exam. Just cancel appointment with Prometric. It will not be considered an attempt; until you sit in Prometric and take the exam it is not an attempt. So hope this helps. Good luck again...
