Good for you amitkans. Mine is: Visa needed, 91/94/passed(Dec)/ECFMG Certificate (Jan)/awaiting result for step 3 (Mar). 3 months of neuro research in US/ 3 months of observership at a university hospital with neuro residents. 3 US LoR (waived one of them, held the original of two other and send copies to ECFMG). 3 International LoR (Firstly I used these, when I did the research and observership, I swapped them with American letter that I had got). Applied to 176 Program: 44 neuro, 90 internal medicine and 42 general surgery! I tried my chance all over, I had good Hx in general surgery with 2 good LoRs. Got 4 Neuro (1 cat and 3 adv), 4 IM (for 2 cat and 1 prelim was on hold for interview), 1 prelim surgery invitation. Matched in Advanced Neuro in a very good program that was my first choice and my reasearch was there. Got prelim in Scramble on J-Visa. I think I could get more IVs but my late result for CS in Dec hurt my application.

Neurology residency is 3 years, and it needs one year of internal medicine residency before you start residency in Neuro, so total will be four years. Some programs give you the first year of internal medicine, are called categorical and some don't, Advanced programs. you match to advanced program for the next year and you have to match to a preliminary internal medicine.

Does neurology has a different match for 2007-2008 or participate in ERAS match? If in the web page of the neurology program they say PGY-1 that means that they will give you everything, including the first year of internal medicine? Thank you to everybody for your help and guide

To be sure if they are giving prelim internal medicine look at the duration or length of program. Its 4 years for combined and 3 years for advance program. Neurolog has been since the last match in ERAS and NRMP just like internal medicine and many others.
