PJO7 the process of certification occurs automatically after all the 3 scores are reported...irrespective of the address...but if u want to hav it in hand quicker then u can give a usa address..u need to change it atleast 2-3 days before ur score gets reported...allow atleast 24 hrs for their system to recobnise the change... good luck

Hi, guys, got a question: how can I know the ranking of a residency program nation-wise? Often hear people say that they got matched at a top program, is there any website available telling us information on that?

oh wow!! an entire support group here for the upcoming match ... 82/80 scores...1 month USCE 4 years back...with so so LORs...yeah not a nice situation CS planned somewhere in august..(visa issues) My question is having given CS before sept1 with a pending result considered better or somewhat equal to be being certified...umm..i guess i know the answer..but still As for the externships and observerships i was wondering about the financial aspect of it since you are not paid then how do all manage all those months living on your own for an externship/observership.

What are you guys doing in terms of preparing for the application process. I have started my personal statement for medicine but its all over the place. Ofcourse i will have to write separate ones for psych, Fm and patho. I was also wondering what would be an absolute deadline to get LOR's? Right now i got nothing but suppose if i get some observership for the months of aug or sept would that be of any help. When do the PD start reviewing applications and reading LOR's. what time should we expect to attend max interviews.

Q:How the programs are rated? A:Usually people goto this web site, http://www.scutwork.com. However, you need to know (big name medical school <> top residency) because they are two different things. There are three different types of programs, 1. University based (better teaching, better resources, higher requirements, everyone wants to get in), 2. Community based (there is some teaching, but not as much as #1, could be excellent), 3. Hospital based (there are some good ones like Mayo and Cleveland, but in the others basically you are a slave. H1 is their carrot to get applicants). Good luck to you all. I am starting next Friday, yahoo !!!

egomez2001 wrote: Tiger, are hospital based programs that bad?..., could you or someone else please extend your comment on hospital based programs..., thanks guys... Don't judge a residency being good or bad based on whether it's community/hospital/university-based. Every program is different, and there are some superb community and hospital-based programs. In fact, from what i've noticed, the "big-name" programs are often the worst. I'm doing my surgery rotation right now at a very prestigious university based hospital, and you couldn't pay me to do my residency here.

All i'm saying is don't judge a program based on its affiliations. That don't mean squat. Do research on each program regardless of its affiliations. The site Tiger07 mentioned is a great place to start (scutwork.com)

To highlight it again, in case you skipped this line, BIG NAME MEDICAL SCHOOL <> TOP RESIDENCY Just because the program has HARVARD somewhere in its name, doesn't mean the program itself is good. Especially be careful to those that are affiliated with such big names. GL

Well... that is why you have to do a lot of work before making your ROL... Rotations, web research and the interviews itself will tell you if that program fits you... I love my program but during IV's one guy didn't feel comfortable at all... so at the end it depends on each one of you.

Hi guys i am graduating september 2007, completed step 1 (99) hopefully give my step2 by oct 07..it is very diffi for me to match this year cause it takes 6 months after graduating for my university to issue my original degree certificate..so matching is impossible..but i am thinking to register in ERAS try to have some experience with interviews..with just my ste1 & ck,can i get interviews or will it be a waste of time and money..

you DO NOT need to graduate to match. This is a HUGEEEE misconception. You have an awesome step 1 score, and can probably land a residency position. As long as you graduate from your medical school by the time residency starts, that's all that matters. The Match does NOT require graduation as one of its requirements.
