To strength: You need the PTAL (California letter) when you apply for programmes in California. Typically it takes months to get it ready (3 months for me). As far as I know, you have to have a valid PTAL on the first day of your residency if in California. So if you want to stay in California, you'd better get started. Please refer the the #138 post for more information.

Hey guys!
I was wondering how long it takes to receive the ECFMG certificate after all the information is available(scores, verification of diploma).
I have taken Step 2ck(score 99/247) and CS(passed), will be taking step 1 in early August, verification has been sent to my med school, now pending.
So that means if I am lucky then my scores from step 1 will be available by Sptember 1st, but the certificate will be pending...I am applying for IM.
What do you think? Is that a major draw-back? I don't think I could take Step 1 earlier than the 1st week of August. I made plans to be done in time but as it always happens - plans changed. I have USCE (9 months, LORs from american physicians)...
What is your opinion on all that?

Is there any facility for couples when they want to match? I mean, that is it possible for me and my husband to match in a same city? Are they helping families?

I forgot to ask one question,
I am done with my step 1,step 2cs in April,waiting for result,scared abt cs result,
Yet to do ck,targeting to take the ck exam in August first week,
Credentials not verified,I've to send my degree certificate to ecfmg,!
Can I make to the MATCH 2008?
Am I in right pace?pls give me suggestions,

You certainly can make it in the 2008 match. If you do not delay your ck you can apply early with your certificate at hand. Try to complete verification and get USCE.

I have a quick Q..
i m done with S1 and CS,,giving my CK 29 june..expected result on 24 july...
when i can apply for S3...as i want the S3 results before i send my application ..is it possible to apply for S3 the moment u pass ur S1,CS,S2CK..or i need to wait for my ECFMG certificate...(i m comfortable with 1 month preparation of S3)
i know i m cramping in a lot on few dates but i dont have excuse....

Sscool, average preparation time is 3-4 months.
Azygous, you need to be ecfmg certified to apply to the s3. The certification will be sent as soon as your ck score is reported. If you want to have s3 score at hand for the match, you will need to take it no later than early august.

hello sscool and Isther:
We are soo in the same boat! I am taking CK on july 7th I find hard to improve my scores though my kaplan score total was 62% and now I'm working on UW wiich so far is 64%only one more month and I dont know if I will make it. you know what I mean? I had a poor score on step 1 (79) so I am trying hatd for 99 in step 2 but I really don't know how to improve my scores...
any idea?

and how much time does it takes to report the scores for step 3??

There is a misconception... the ECFMG certificate is issued the moment the score is reported...reported, not in your hand. If the score report takes 2-3 weeks to get to you after it is reported, the certificate takes less because it is send by fedex... it is an automated process you must do nothing to get your certificate...

Do we need to pay to get ecfmg certificate,so that it can be automatically sent to our address?
To be more clear, I 've finished step 1,step 2 cs with scores in hand, except ck scheduled in August 14,will they send Ecfmg certificate as soon as ck score is reported on their own,

yes they will send their own.you donot have to do anything.iECFMG certification come iby fedex.you donot have to pay anything.once ur CK score report updated,u will get it automatically.

You don´t need certificate in hand, there is no info on certificate that you already know, just wait for report on your account
Depends where you´re located..., around 3 weeks...

Hello,
i have a Q ?
I am not sure wheather i ll be in India or US arround my score reporting and certification.
If everything goes fine then I would be receiving my paper arround last august/september ?
Do you think I should give the US address or India Address for faster processing..
Rt now I have my India add in the ECFMG form, when should I change it, before writing the exam or after that ?
Do you guys think it would be ok if I give the address of my relative in US, I might and might not be there that time arround.
