It seems the application could be "complete" without a MSPE, however, some programmes do consider it a requisite. I had better do something about it now.shaking head

Hi, Zhaoju:

Thanks for your reply! I got the similar idea based on my readings at several other websites. Also I noticed that there are two formats of MSPE. One is publiced by AAMC. The other format is like a regular recommendation letter. Check the www.usmleweb.com.

Your credentials look awesome and big congratulations for your coming baby! (I had step 1 while I was 30 weeks pregnancy and step 2 while she is 5 month old.) Believe me, it is the best thing that can happen to your life!

Good luck to everything!

Hi,
One of my friends did not have deans letter but he did get a residency. He is in his 2 nd year of residency but the program keeps asking him to get a deans letter. So he says you can still match without the letter but you will have to get it eventually.

Hi all,
Nice to see this thread.I am also trying for match 2008.

Dean's letter/MSPE and medical school transcript is not really that important for IMG's, but try to get it if you can anyways. Don´t worry if it is just a simple letter; many schools outside the US are not familiar with these letters and programs understand that this is a problem for IMGs.

Hello,

I did not provide any MSPE or dean's letter and matched this year in IM. Also, had no problem getting interviews without them.

Try top get them but don't lose sleep pver it. best of luck,

ngt

The MSPE is not an absolute requisite for your application, so if you can't obtain a full MSPE you can send a short LOR-like dean's letter or even no MSPE at all. Obviously, it will be a lot better to obtain a well structured MSPE, since it will give a few extra points to your application.

As ngt said, try to get it but don´t lose sleep because of it if you can not provide it. Dean's letter is not that important for IMG's unless you were extremely outstanding or bad in medical school.

What about the transcript, how important it is?

  #116

I forgot to mention also that MSPE/Dean's are available on November, where most programs and especially IMG friendly have already screened applicants, best, ngt.

  #117

MSPE is instead of deans letter?

A transcript ideally should tell what subjects you studied at school, how many weeks and how many hours per week you studied each subject and the grades. But again, I think it is not that important either for IMG's anyways because every school in every country has different grading systems. Just as with the Dean's Letter/MSPE, if you can not provide it, just check that you will not provide it in your ERAS application.

As posted in different forums, programs only care about your USMLE scores and don´t really pay attention to your grades in school unless you have bad grades or failed classes.

zhaojun, I noticed you are using EAD for working. Now I faced a dilemma, I applied Green card and now it is still pending, do you think that I can use the EAD to apply for residency? It carries a risk since if my I-485 is denied, I will be our of status. I will really appreciate your input.

BTW, do you have the CA Letter ready to apply residency in CA? how long does it to prepare it?

  #124

Hi, Lcase:

I am the beneficiary applicant of green card. I also have the risk of denial of I-485 as you do. So the risk is there. I want to have my step3 done in case I need the H1B sponsership.

Yes, my CA letter is done. It took me about 3-4months. If you want to apply in California, work on the CA letter as soon as possible, you never know exactly how long it will take you.

By the way, have you ever done any observership or externship in California? It is really a headache for me now, I really need more LORs. confused

  #125

I am in. I need this to be done next year and move on with my life.
