hi zhao, you are absolutely right. I am also looking around and so far no luck.(BTW i'm in tx). Not even a research position. As i am a 2001 grad, USCE is absolutely essential for me even for my own satisfaction. CAn anyone help? ANy contacts.

Sarika, I did a 3-month observership in Miami Children's Hospital, check with their website, they offer it publicly. However, I didn't get very strong LORs (what a shame ) and now I am in california, more USCE is still critical for me. Good luck to both of us! Also to everyone in this group!

Last week i emailed nearly 100 programs in 2 states Requesting Observership. Almost 90% replied but the answer was no. Some even sent me a generic email, which had requirements for this years Application eligibility. WHile saying that they cannot offer any observership opportunity, right down that page they said 3 months of USCE is highly desirable. I cannot tell you how i resisted the urge to reply back and say "Well you dont offer USCE but demand one anyways, Would you like to tell me how can i get one?

yeah vancomycin i think you are right. ALso many are replying with a 5 yrs cut off from graduation i will be just over 5 yrs like i graduated in 2001. Presbyterian of dallas was so close to where i live and they just replied that you have graduated from med school within past two years. Can i still have a chance to be considered at those places. Seems like options are getting limited.

I wanted to ask the same question as Shak did, but just a little different as he/she had to do the internship to get the medical degree, I did internship to get the licensure to practice. So those 5 yr cut offs, will they be calculated from the year I graduated or from the year I did my internship? Thank you.

I am an IMG, will be completing all exams by August. I am looking for help for preparing the match list. If you are in naperville, i would like to meet you or converse over the phone for details regarding match program. Personally i have browsed different sites to gather knowledge and details, but still i would like to interact with some one in person (preferably) to gather the details. If you are preparin for match 2008 or already if you have succedded in match 2007, please email at vendba@yahoo.com (img female from India) thanks

Hi guys... I really need help in making a very important decision. I already took step 1 (97/240) and CS (waiting for the results) and preparing for CK maybe to take it in June. My bf had also taken the steps (97 and 99) and CS. We at first thought about applying for 2008 match as couple, but theres a lil extra: we are expecting a baby for august this year. We have been advised that is better for me (the mother) to apply for 2009 match while my bf applies for 2008 and so I can stay a year with my baby instead of getting in right away. For me it would be very tough since first Im an IMG graduated 3 years ago and it seems they are being strict with the time since graduation, and also besides to me it seems like a lot of time wasted, but maybe it would be too tough for both of us to enter as a first year resident with a 1 yr old baby... what do you guys think?? 2008 or 2009 for me?

Hi, Allymd. First congrat on your great performance in the exams! I am in the same boat. I am expecting the baby in Dec. I know how you feel facing this dilemma. I will still try to go for the 2008 first. (But I can imagine what feedback I will get given that I go to the interviews in my 3rd trimester.) however, I won't feel any regret if the 2008 match fails. For me, family is still the most valuable thing. I just hope everything is OK with my little one. By the way, you are still a fresh graduate, 4 year from graduation still leaves you tons of opportunities, good ones. Don't worry.

Count me in for 2008 match. Very old graduate (1998) IMG from China. Did one year residency in Psychiatry in home country. Spent next 6 years in graudate school and got a Ph.D. in Neuroscience in US. Currently a scientist in Neurosicence dept. of a biotech company. Scores (94/87/waiting for CS result). no USCE. Thinking of matching into neurology program. Do not know my chances... But I will try hard. Currently collecting application materials. Want to know more information on dean's letter. My feeling is that we still need dean's letter even after graduation. Am I right? Anyone has the template for it? Thanks, Good luck to everyone in the 2008 match game!!!

zhy99001, welcome! Do we really need a dean's letter? I thought only medical students need it. Let me do some "research" first. hope you are NOT right

The following is copied from ECFMG website: The MSPE evaluates a medical student's performance. See A Guide to the Preparation of the Medical Student Performance Evaluation to learn more about this document. To submit a MSPE, you should contact your medical school of graduation as soon as possible to obtain the letter. Once you secure the MSPE, send us the original accompanied by a completed ERAS Document Submission Form. Make a copy for your personal records. When we receive your MSPE, we scan it and transmit it to the ERAS PostOffice, whether you have applied to a program or not. All MSPEs are held at the ERAS PostOffice until November 1st, at which time they are released to programs to which you applied. If you are unable to provide an original MSPE, you must indicate this on Page 12 of your Common Application Form (CAF) - MyERAS Application. A neutral filler letter will be provided in place of a MSPE. The filler letter will be provided to all of the programs to which you apply, and will state, "This is in lieu of a MSPE." This will ensure that your application will appear as complete, for those programs that require a MSPE before considering your application. NOTE: The MSPE does not count as one of your Letters of Recommendation (LoRs) and does not need to be listed and assigned to your programs. This is done automatically when the MSPE is submitted.
