sorry thats "kind enuf to guide me on this"

There is no standarized ranking system for it, though there are some websites who will charge money to make a customized list for your credentials like matcharesident.com (i have no idea how good is their list). What people do is to go through "lists" of IMG friendly programs ( there are many commercial and free lists on the internet) to see what criteria programs have and visas they offer. As for how good a program is (also mentioned in the lists sometime) i would suggest going through scutwork.com and US NEWS Hospital ranking.

hi everyone...i know i m gettin a bit paranoid abt this but when someone says tht apply on sept 1...do they mean 00:00 sept 1 or office timings sept 1(after 8-9 in the morning)...

also...this sept 1,2,3 is a long weekend...does tht mean tht our applications will b transmitted on 4th sept?or will ecfmg be working on the weekend?

2 dumb questions...i know!!

  #329

PGI2alpha....i dont think those are dumb questions. Mainly, because i had the same doubts grin

Another question from me, I noticed quite a many programs asking for three letters of recommendation, and that one of them MUST BE from the Dean and/or the Department Chair. Is it alright to apply to such programs without having the required letters. ie. I have one from an attending of Internal Medicine only(not chair), other two are from another department. No Dean's LOR.

  #330

It is alright to apply without those letters if you are an IMG. About the transmission I think it is quite automatic but maybe I'm wrong. Oh!! and remember to sign in for the match at NRMP.org...it is open at last!!!!nod GL to us all!!

does anyone have suggestions for my situation.

i will be applying to Internal Medicine. But i have good US lors from 'Neurology'. Only one average US lor(coz its from a private practice physician) is from Internal Medicine. the rest (two) are from IM attendings during internship. any ideas which are the best to assign to IM programs?

  #332

Why wont you use your neurology letters? Its a branch of IM so I think its even better!!! My LOR's come from an interventional cardiologis, a GI and 2 nephrologists I think its even better if the LOR writter did fellowship and a neurologist is a great option!!! and in the worse of cases if you only had FM or surgery LOR's a letter saying that you are great is better then nothing at all.

I think you should do your homework and looking at requirements in each of the programs. Nobody will do it for you nod
Since it's about your future, better you do it now than latter.

Hi, guys, I have a question, after we submit the common application form, can we update the information on CAF such as send one more personal statement or LOR? Also after we applied to a program, can we send one more LOR to that program through ERAS?

After you submit your CAF, you CANNOT change it. But that does not include your LOR or Personal Statement. LOR and Personal Statement are located under Documents and you can alsways add additional LOR or PS. If you assign a LOR and PS to a program, you can't remove or edit that. All you can do is to assign another PS or LOR. Keep in mind that you can only assign upto 4 LOR to one program, so if you have already assigned 4 LORs to a program then you can't add another one.

PS if it is assigned to even one program, then you can't edit it. If you find an error in your PS or you like to change it completely, then you have to write another PS and assign the new one. Remember that assigning the new PS to a program does not remove the old PS from your record.

Good luck

Hi! I am new to the forum and is trying to match next yr too!
I am trying to complete the CAF and I came across Board Certification.
What does it mean exactly? How can any medical student or any IMG be board certified?
Or perhaps the CAF is used for fellows as well who may be board certified?

  #341

doc1355, thank you so much for the reply.

I have another question, we must submit CAF before we can apply to any program , is that right?

  #342

Hi fellow applicants,

I started this thread in the aftermath of Match 2007 and i am glad that it has snowballed into a very informative thread..as Sept 1 is looming upon us.
The one request i have is to keep the thread positive. I know the next 3 months are going to be difficult for some, wonderful for others, heartbreaking for some others..but we are all united in our goal. Let other things not detract us from this. As for me, i am applying to IM this year...crossing my fingers and praying for the best.
Good luck everyone..lets keep updating each other as the interview season opens!!

Hey, one question: there is a question in MyEras: whether I would like or not ERAS to automatically report results of my Step2 CS and Step 3 to the program.

"Do you authorize the automatic retransmission of your USMLE transcript if Step results, which were not available at the time your request was processed, become available during the current ERAS cycle?"

Whad did you select as an answer? Yes/No. Does it matter whether I pick yes or No?

I am also going for the 2008 match. Count with me!!

  #345

@ O-pos

it should be yes. but on what page did you find this particular question?

hey....every1 .......all the best for sep1.......

  #347

has everyone already finalised (and shortlisted) their application list?
as i browse the forum and find out about more programs, my list only keeps swelling bigger and bigger . unfortunately the wallet is already shrunk! rolling eyes

  #348

Can anyone tell me how can I know if the program is a university affiliated community program, or a community program? Really need your advice urgently. Thanks in advance.

  #349

drk1980, i can feel you. i had 60 programs on my list for gen surg and i have cancelled out only 10. i am also doing 20 applications each to IM and FM as safety nets...sad i did not match last year and i am desperate to match this year. my main interest is orthopedics and that is shaking head for IMG so i will put in 20 applications there... you never can tell. so i am looking at around $1500. sad
