First let me answer marwins question.

LOR has to be original.

LOR's should be signed in any color other than black. That will help ecfmg people to determine your letter is original. Now if you already have them...cant go back and get tham changed then i guess you cant do anything. Right!

Now my situation.

I worked in two pvt clinics. First one is a free medical clinic for the underserved where i took history and did physical exam and discussed that with the attending physician. Second place is a pvt physicians office where i took history performed physical and the physician did discuss the cases with me at length. They dint pay me.

Both the Physicians are writing exactly that(history, physical and case discussions) in the LOR, without assigning it as externship or observership. Both are FORMER professors in a big name uni in my city. Once i inquired them abt HIPAA Rules and issues, they told me whatever i do under their supervision is perfectly fine/legal.

Now how should i mention all this in my CAF. Under work experience or voluntary? Do i have to assign that experience a name like externship or observership?

Thank you

to sarika--- i think as voluntary

my situation

hi people
i have couple of queries as i went through documents list to be submitted.

1. medical transcript

how many pages do they limit for transcript.
my transcript has 9 pages . will all pages be scanned.

2. mspe

my school do not give separate mspe.
but i got periodic certicates and perfomance letters compared to my classmates from my med school. can i submit those letters as my MSPE along with dean's letter.

where does this go --- transcript or mspe

1- marksheets
2- clerkship records--- without grades
3- internship data.

3. LORs

i got lors before my aamc id. i waived my rights and those letters are in sealed envelops.
how do i right my aamc id on those letters. can i right my ID on envelops. i also can not give cover letters as they are sealed envelops . is it ok to send without cover letters.

thanks

agreed with prader-willi...
sarika according to the definitions its should be under work experience...

silly question - i have an ongoing research/observership position in a community hospital... should i list this as under one experience and check both research and work... or should i list it twice?

Guys the update is really nice from my side. Both the US physicians i worked with wrote good LORS. One even mentioned in the LOR, the pvt hospital He took me to consult on his patientswink... so that worked out great.

I will be sending these two LORs tomorrow...Writing the PS is the next "TO DO" thing! I still havent searched programs though..i might be buying some lists...let me know if you guys have some experience with these companies.

Takecare and goodluck.

IM was my first choice but since I started working with a neurologist i'm leaning towards neurology because of its nice lifestyle and good job market. Problem with neurology is not many programs offer PGY1 (Categorical) and you have to apply for Preliminary IM year separately. There is a good chance that one while matched at an advanced neurology program, can still remain unmatched for PGY1. I dont like uncertainity so i will widely apply to categorical IM positions too. Psychiatry is my back up. Also thinking about applying to Pathology positions as i like that too.

I know i might get a heart attack after seeing my credit card bill!

lol... just thinking about the cost of this process is giving me palpitations...
great news sarika... still waiting on my LORs... hope i get them this week... had to ask my old professors so none from US doctors thus far...

Dear BBB or any other helpful senior.
My question is how current do the LORS have to be. I have an LOR dated 2004 when i did an attachment in the UK. Should i ask the letter writer to write me annother LOR or will the same one do?. Either way wat difference does it make because the doc will still comment on my work i did with her in the new letter as well and that attachment was done in 2004. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

  #294

ECFMG only states that it should be "as current as possible". I would recommend to update them because it would be a stronger letter but if you can't I think a letter from 2004 is better then no letter.

Oh by the way...MSPE is the same thing as the dean's letter...they changed the dean's letter for the MSPE since it is not a letter of recommendation from your dean but a complete history of your performance through medical school. Follow guidelines found in aamc.org

Thank you, bbb. In terms of my clinical performance, my medical school professors surely reprent me better. The reason I was hesitating is just becasue some people say that the programs only trust the US MDs. Now I think I will use two letters from my medical professor for my clinical performances and the one from my postdoc boss for my personality and scietific performances. Thank you again, bbb and good luck to all.

Kity: LOR must contain your full name, aamc id no. and whether you waived your right or not to see your letter. Otherwise if your letter gets lost in paperwork they will not be able to connect it with you. I would recommend to change it for a new one that includes this info. The date on the LOR cover is the date when you sent the claim to your LOR writters and should not be the date that the LOR was written or sent. Remember the LOR cover sheet is a sheet that you send to your writters before they even get to do the letter. Good luck with that and keep posting. I hope I answered your questions.
