can any one explain me why there's hypercalcemia in sarcoidosis?

1) I know most of our books say hypercalcemia but the 14th ed.(pg.1926) of Harrisons says hypercalcemia is rare. 2)No one blood test will diagnose it 3)ACE is elevated in 2/3s of pts 4)hilar adenopath is the mainstay of dx 5)looking at pg2222**Granulomas and alveolar macrophages synthesize --1,25(OH)2-D2 which is responsible for the hypercalcemia 6)So answer to your q is elevated levels of vitamin D.
