Hello everybody!

i need an urgent help.

went through the scramble. got an invitation for a face-to face interview in IM on friday. flying tomorrow.

never had an interview befor.really nervous.lost 5 pounds(so now i'm 95 pounds overall-almost scary),

what are my chances? the program is really tough and i don't match their criteria, but the coordinator probably liked me-God bless her.

how to be myself when i am an overexpressive person, and get anxious too easily? how?

i haven't been practicing medicine in the US,or anywhere else, and don't know what to say if they ask about my experience.

i'm afraid,very afraid.

any advises?any suggestions?any tips?

anything is appreciated.

thanks,and good luck.

Hello Alenka, You are luck that you got interview. Just show the interest in the program and research more about the program. Know who will conduct the interview and any publications by those who will interview you. Best of luck, bring good news

  #3

Apparently you do match their criteria..you got an interview didn't you grin

They may ask some standard questions like, what are your goals, where do you see yourself in the future, why are you interested in us, do you have any questions for us. They already know what they are going to ask you based on your personal statement and resume, so review it. Whatever weaknesses are mentioned, mention something positive in return. I didn't practice medicine in the US, but I have to determination to work hard to contribute to the program and to improve myself. Show interest in the program and show interest in the people. Get some good rest the night before. Be friendly and smile, sometimes this will help you to relax.

Good luck. You'll be fine.

please research about the program.PD (his research), interviewers may be adhoc as it is a scramble IV. highlight ur strengths..steering IV towards ur strength is an easy art, just dont make a big shift in the topic of discussion..slowly drift to points that will ultimately get ur strengths showcased automatically!
congrats!

confidence is the key. keep smiling. if u can do then intervieews do give some hints abt what they like, maybe unknowingly but u can then talk about what they like. be excited but don't overdo. good luck

  #6

thank you, guys,I'll try to do my best.

on the web-there's not much about the program, neither is on freida. will do some more investigation on the PD,hope something will come up.

good night sleep-i hope so.had to get the flight, book the hotel, arrange the shuttle-hours and hours of research and money.tonight i have so much stuff to do-i had nothing-no suit,no shoes,no blouse, nothing, had to buy all of this.i really didn't expect this outcome.have to alter my suit by myself-the alteration stores take too long to do it,plus i'm leaving tomorrow at noon.and have a haircut at 8 am-my hair looks terrible right now.have to get the papers ready....

it's the first interview in my entire life. shit (sorry for the word, but this is exactly how i'm feeling right now).i want to sleep.for the past 3 nights i barely got 8 hours of sleep combined.

but-it's not over until it's over.will try to keep a positive attitude.hopefully there will be internet at the hotel-i'll keep you posted.

thank you again,guys.

P.S. hey, drkpp, good to see you! how is everything going? what's going on in your life?

Hey,
Relax, congrad, calm down.

Try to nail the intv & got the spot.

Alteratin better with professional. Do not know where you are but in USA if you pay more even 1 hr alteration is there. or Buy the new one, some store, mall also has alteration right away with higher price.

yep,you are right.but i'm wondering-how early do they open?

yes,i just bought a new suit, but it was closing time, and now i'm afraid i won't be able to make it tomorrow.it has to be done by 11 am.i am in the US,yes.

  #9

hey, some tailoring stores here in the US have express service where they get your thing altered in one hour. they may charge an extra 10 bucks for the quick service. try asking about it. and good luck. you will do it.

  #10

all the best alenka. keep your cool. dont let the suit thing get to you too much. i went to an interview and realised i was missing a button on the morning while the cab was waiting outside. i found a close look alike button and put that on. if you cannot fix the suit, dont let it bother you. just wear it and imagine you are madonna.

all the very best.

one advice some one gave me a long time ago that i have always used and helps me is to look in the mirror before the interview, give my self a bright smile and remind my self of two positive things that have happened to me. this always helps me relax and boosts confidence.

good luck.

To be yourself and to sell yourself are very important. You may also prepare some common questions, such as, please tell me about yourself, why you choose this program? what do you expect for yourself in 5, 10 years? etc.

The key is to pray for God's mercy and help!

Good Luck!

Alenka

One of the mistakes I made was to be nervous

Another was show that my actions over the last few years had been in line with my need to get a residency in US. Do that ..........OK

God Bless you man............Try your best....DOnt think that this is the end of the road be confident

and when you do clear the IV please say a prayer for me as I am still Unmatched

All the best man.

alenka, good luck. try to be urself. be poised and dont look desperate.e ven though u feel like it.

Congratulations on getting an interview, best of luck, a coule of words of advise, hope they are helpful well as youalready know depending on lenght of interview they will ask different questions but it is pretty standard to be asked what interest you about our program so know the program inside out, research the program director and staff. A little tidbit is you get asked alot what are your strengths and weaknesses, everybody knows what their strengths are but make sure you have a list of your weaknesses but of course have ones that make you look good. Once again I wish you the best of luck you sound like youve covered all your bases. YOull be fine Im sure

  #16

You got the interview because you deserved it. Congrats.

Now take a deep breath. Just do the routine interview prep ( as said above and in previous posts). Dress professional, act professional, show interest and be yoursef ( do not try to put an act on). Talk smartly. They have called you because they want to know YOU.. they already have your CV and know what exp you have and what you dont.

Pray and leave the rest to the Divine power.

Good Luck

Don't be nervous, that's the main thing on interview. Stay calm, get enough sleep the night before.
You've made it this far. Keep going and you can do it.
Good luck Alenka!

Hello,guys!

I'm back now.

have you heard about the storm in philadelphia?-i was stuck there for almost for 30 hours.was lucky to make it tonight!

well, the interview went ok.of course,i got nervous.very nervous.i think i screwed up big big big time! and-with PD-the last person you want to get nervous with!the interview with the chief and the other campus director went ok,i think.

i liked the programs a lot.the atmosphere was really good, there were lots of foreign residents.no scutwork, good location. and the programm coordinator and the educational advisor-were really awesome.

i will not know the answer untill monday.i'm very nervous.

they took my measurments for the lab coat-i don't know how to read this sign.

i really want to be in that program.the staff members were wonderful,it felt like a big family.they go ski together,go to the movies,bowling-amazing,isn't it?

so,i'm freaking out.

thank you guys, for the support.i got my suit altered professionally.and right befor my cab got to the hotel-i found out that i forgot the mascara (whiterabbit-i'm a girl, not a man, lol ),but i got a new one at the gift shop.

ok,have to catch some sleep=first time this week

i'll keep you updated.

if you have any opinions-please,share.

best of luck.

Alenka, wer u have been? All the things you are saying is similar to the place I went for interview, it was in New Jersey. They did the measuring for me, maybe we have met each other there. I was one of last guys who came over for luuch in cafeteria.

If they did measuring, it means they really want to sign the contract with you. CONGRATS!

Yeah, the PHL airport is one of the worst..nothing but delays...delays...delays. But i'm sure it will be well worth it. Just relax and enjoy your weekend...go out and have a nice meal and Monday will arrive sooner than you think. Keep us posted if you get the position..it'll be nice to hear some more good news. Goodluck

  #22

hello amirhossein!

did they do measuring for you too? if you arrived to the cafeteria later-you might not have met me- i left just befor everobody went on the tour of the hospital with the senoir resident, -because of my airplane. did you sit separately at the table with the other guy?

if we were at the same place,hopefully,-how did it all end up?what did you, guys do after the tour?-probably signed your contracts? lol- or they left you hanging in there till monday too?
