Hi ,
Iam an IMG fromIndia.
Did ENT 3 yrs post Grad from India. Worked with a renwoned ENT surgeon in UK for 1 yr. Have done a research thesis and have 3 publications in south asian(indexed jornals).
what should i do to explore the feeble chance i have in ENT..
I have 95 in step and givig my step 2 in may..
any suggestions

Munna...my 2 cents...if u need a visa, then ur chances for ENT are like 0.01% (p value <0.05).

(Moderators forgive me for a post in hindi....just wanted to drive home a point! )

Definetely try for ENT, but I suggest you should be willing to settle for something less like gen surgery (which itself is difficult, but not as tough as ENT) in order to avoid dissapointment. Recently I met some chief residents in ENT departments, who told me that its a tough one for AMGs itself & they have their deans lobbying for them. Most of them are placed in pre-matches.

Bole To... I get ur point..
but cn u tell me what is the normal course of ent. I mean do u get into a direct residency in ENT( like internal medicine) or is it mandatory to do prelim year ( in surgery).
How many years of residency is there and if you want to into a subspeciality like ear or Nose do you have to do further fellowships.
I was suggested by someone that if you get into a clinical fellowship first , there is a good chance to get into residency later.
Personally, i think it is a long way and there is still uncertainty at the end of the tunnel.

arey munna, Kilinical fellowseep milega kaha? You need to be BC/BE to get into fellowships in surgical specialities. Radio & certain medical specialities are different...where u could probably get fellowship b4 u start residency. Those Khalnayaks.....Bada Bhai AMG is there to spoil ur chances in whatever Neuro OTO & Paeds ORL fellowships u have here. Head & Neck Onco is competed by gen surg guys also...so its kinda difficult too. You need your "Circuit" to get you into a residency!
