According to FREIDA statistics, only about 5% of Emergency Medicine residents are IMGs. Why this? Is Emergency Medicine a too competitive residency for IMGs? Is it possible for IMGs with high USMLE scores to successfully match in an Emergency Medicine Program? Or would it be more practical for an IMG to think first about other residencies, like Internal Medicine? Thank you in advance for your answers.

Emergency Med. and Anesthesiology were reachable for IMG's before, but now they are very competitive.

EM is highly competitive, if you have almost perfect scores and good credentials (better if you are a GC holder) you could get it but it's hard but it's possible; it wouldn't hurt you to have a back up plan, just in case; try to speak with people -IMGs- who have applied to it for specific advices.
