Hi guys i took the exam on feb10. Finally i got some time to write about my encounter with the real thing. It was not easy i have to say, but it wasnt hard either. Some questions were really hard, some were plain easy but most of them were moderate, like u really have to know your stuff. anyways, i got whole lota pediatrics and beh science which gave me confidence as i like these two areas. internal medicine was there but mostly intermingled with other cases, like they would start the case as int med some guy in 50s with many chronic conditions but question will be about his surgical potential. some ob/gyn but not that much.
ok so some of the pages of crush the boards were really vital and helpful. Like the opthamology section of crush, its like 4 pages i think. i got 10 questions from each page, so whatever was in the opthamology section, i felt each line was tested! same thing with orthopedics section tables, there are two i think, everything was tested from that. Ob/gyn in kaplan highlights wass very helpful, almost everything sakala said was tested.
surg wasnt really trauma question, it was more of limb fractures and nerves involved, also surgical risk in pts with chronic diseases, some tumors surgical treatment, like i got many melanoma questions. Peds was all over the place, vaccines, milestones, infections Otitis media was big, also meningitis, osteomyelitis, not many genetic diseases, overall kaplan peds book helped a lot. In int med, i felt two blocks were mixture of gastroenterology and endocrinology questions. GI questions were really confusing for me :? endo was ok, many endo tumors, cushing dis, diabetes dose scheduling, DKA, transplant q for late diabetics, pituitary tumors, Addison's was big, everything in Addison's diff dx, most GI questions were next best step, most accurate test, most specific type questions, bit confusing. Psychiatry and ethics were heavily tested but mostly were straight forward, i think even questions on this forum were much harder than the actual exam, they choices were easy so it was easier to eliminate other choices. Yeah one thing in kaplan's psych book, sleep disorders chapter was heavily tested. i had these graphs drawn by someone who i got the books from (Who actually took kaplan lectures) he had drawn the sleep pattern changes caused by different drugs. i got two of those graphs.
i didnt have many images. 1 CT which was some kinda mass, there was no description to go with it, it just said whats the likely diagnosis in this pt and CT was shown, honestly i had no clue what it was so i made a guess and moved on. 2 EKGs, 1 i was sure was Vtach and i had to pick treatment. Other i am not sure was what :? 1 herpes zoster picture and 1 blood slide which i am pretty sure was AML with auer rods, description helped.
Kaplan q bank questions are very similar to actual exam but choices are harder. mock is too easy. NMS choices were more like the actual exam but not their questions. So i felt like if u do q bank questions, matched with harder choices like NMS, thats how the exam is.
O yeah the ecfmg cd of 3 blocks they send u, i got like 6 exact questions from it, those were matching type of questions, u will know which one they are if u do the cd.
so thats all i can remember, overall u get really tired towards the last two blocks and the questions seemed longer towards the end.

I think i passed as i came out with a good feeling, at least i am hoping, dont know if i will get a good score.

well u yourself got 99, i cant ever imagine getting that. i mean i wasnt even aiming that high. if i pass with moderately good score, i will be happy. anyways thanks for your wishes

helpful, ecfmg cd is send by ecfmg for free when u register for the exam.
Thanks for all your wishes result came so early, it was barely 2 weeks, i havent even tried oasis trick at that point yet so it was a bit shocking so i thought maybe its something else like a survey but anyways that was a good in a way that i didnt even worry about it.
So thanks to u all.
i will post int med q and answers soon, these r over 400 q that i made, but they r NOT usmle style questions, i made them from kaplan int med notes and i thought they helped me review my material quickly in last days without going thru the whole book. they r just mostly one liner questions but i put like next best step, most sensitive, most specific dx and stuff like that so hopefully i will post those soon

Yeah i ve taken step 1 a few months ago,and the funny part was i scored same as your step 2 score,which is 86/212
I did not do anything special or study any kind of different material..the materials i used were :
Pato : BRS pathology (i think it was great and sufficent enough)
Biochemistry :Lippincots
Microbiology :unfortunetly i didnot use any kind of english source,but i think the book i used was the turkish edition of jawetz
Pharma :Same as microbiology,turkish edition of Katzung
Behavioral science :BRS BS
I didnot study specificaly any source for anatomy,neuroanatomy,histology,embryology,genetics ,but nearly memorize these parts from First Aid for step one ...this was an extremely good source for review for any kind of subject related with step 1
What else ?
And did lots of question from nms ,kaplan q book ,some web sources,and from so many kind of other books...
Among all these books First Aid was my lifesaver :wink:

unfortunately nothing :oops: i studied step one in a limited time period,for that reason i did not have a chance to cover all the subject from their specific books...i reviewed physiology from first aid and physiology related questions&explanations from different sources..most of times i used "study and learn from explanations of questions tecnique" for covering lots of different subjects
