Doc, I don't know about step 2 beacuse I started studying for it only recently, but I can tell you this: one month ago I did step 1 and the day after I really couldn't remember anything else than wrong qs. I started to check some I was in doubt on and for 6 out of 7 that I checked I realized I was wrong. Also doing the test it was seeming to me much harder than what I expected. When I just got out of center I phoned my father and told him "I don't know if I passed, but it was so hard and if I passed I must have taken between 80 to 90".

I was about to start thinking I was never gonna pass but than I went thorugh my NBME score report of one month prior. I scored well on NBME, on kaplan simulated and on UW blocks in last days. Also I saw that my performance in these qs was around 1.5 SD above the mean while to pass it's required to do only 1 SD below the mean. There I became very confident and stopped checking my exam qs, and in fact I got a good score.

So my advice is: if you have always scored above the mean, what is the odd that you did a disastrous performance just on exam day? And also, do you remember when you did your UW blocks? I am sure a lot of times you have clicked the "end this review" button with mixed feelings about your performance just to find few seconds later a good score. Why should this time be different? They claim that, at least for step 1, the exam score should have at maximum 6 points of variability if the same candidate takes this test several times. let's just belive them! If that's true your score cannot be bad! So please don't even think anymore of your test qs and just think of your previous preformance in UW, Kaplan or NBME!

Congratulation doc, I can understand how tough could be for an IMG to be thrown in this new world of MLE like tests... It is indeed a bless to pass both steps at first try and the best thing is that you don't have to do this pain anymore now! You will study the same stuff again for step 3 but it's gonna be after you have that ECFMG certificate in your hands and the spirit is gonna be completely different then... Ok you could get a better score, I mean you were definitely able to do so because you are very prepared, but unfortunately sometimes it happens to perform not at one's best. If you follow soccer, how many times you see a very strong team losing with a much weaker team? Luckily you didn't lose! You won! So it's as if that strong team wins 1-0 suffering all the 90 mins with a weak team. The team is still strong and has 3 more ponits in the league... So don't think that because you got 81 you worth 81; you worth 99, we all know that. Keep your spirit high! I woud like to see how most of 99ers used to the US testing style would perform doing the test in a foreign language and with a completely different setting as we are used to... I wish you all the best for step 2cs and hope you're gonna get a nice holiday then!

While you said that Virgola , Let me give you guys my curriculum smiling face!

Native Country : HAITI

Native Language : French and Creole

Age : 28 yo (Single Male )

Medicine School : Mexico ( Had to learn Spanish in med school )

School in Mexico : Cannot say its name but very very bad ( generally only 1 out 10 make it though the USMLE after multiple attemtps ...... and only 3 out of 40 in my class made a residency in Mexico which is obviouly easier than the USMLE .... I am the only one who made it to the US raised eyebrow

English status : I started learning it while studying for step 1 in social service , when I fisrt read Goljan stars books , I didn ' t understand DARK until I had to read it 3 times with my dictionary next to me and of course his audio make it easier for me ( HE IS MY BIG TIME USMLE SAVIOR , I even got his picture in my room ) I cleared d Step 1 with 78 with no english . Now , I am still worried for CS though grin but I ' ll find a way to make it as usual by God 's grace

Actually I think my english status screwed me up in Psychiatry BIG TIME , I was scoring 70 s in UW and now I got the lowest performance in it ... In the real test those Qs are so long (30 lines ) that It took me 1 min to read it and another one to understand what they said without even go the the choicesdisapproval ( may be it 's rationalization )

Current Location : Mexico , looking for CS visa ( Hope I will get it )

NOW , YOU CAN SEE WHY I SAID IT ' S A BLESSING nod
