dont get too down. i didnt match either. im gonna try the scramble tomorow and wednesday. how did u find the scramble to be last year? overwhelming? did you get to talk to any programs?

vancomycin, i am really sorry to hear that. get ready to scramble.
if u do have to come back for next year, try to get more USCE (the more the better), get A+ (not just A) US LORS, and write a PS that will knock every reader's socks off. besides all these, networking...

Based on my experience....CONNECTION DOES matter here in the US. So, try to do observerships where you can build good connections with key people, e.g., PD, members of residency committee etc. Once they like you and you have good connection with them...they will open the door for you. Good luck.

hey vanco, i am sorry i know how it hurts. try to find some doctor who is really good and gets some publications frequently and do research wth him/her. thats what i did.

Hello Vancomycin,
I think the best approach for you will be to do observership in programs that are known to give prematch. externship is very important especially if you are not a recent graduate. there are many programs in NYC that offer externship and if you are good, I am sure they will consider you very strongly for residency.
