Hey everyone, I have a question and would help any advice! I am currently a 3rd year medical student doing rotations. I will finish rotations up in July 2008. I want to know when residency programs begin (or a website to visit that will help) and also when I need to apply to the programs by? I want to have my Step 2 score in hand when I apply...I don't know if I can even shoot for the 2008 match or if I would have to go for 2009? I really don't want to have nothing to do for a year...Also, if I can't make the match for 2008, can I apply for late match and what are the deadlines for that? Please let me know, everyone's help is GREATLY appreciated

Hey! Ok thanks, so I went through these sites and they were really very helpful. But I'm wondering: 1) Where exactly on the FREIDA site do I go to figure out what the deadlines are for residency programs? I can't seem to find the link. 2) When do I need to have scores for the CS and CK back by? By application time or by interview time? 3) So...when would it be a good time to take the CS and CK? I know it takes a while to get scores back for CS. Oh, I'm an FMG! Thank you for your help, you freakin rock

1. On freida there will be a link to search for programs, then select the state and field of specialty which you are interested. A list will come up and go through the programs individually to find out their deadlines. 2. If you have your scores in by application time I think that would be helpful. 3. It can take at least 1 month to get back your scores (give or take a week or so depending on how busy they are). Take the tests so that you will have your scores by application time (only if you're ready to do well though)

Hello Topoli, The bottom line is,if you want to compete in the Match 2009 get everything ready by Sept 2008. If you graduate in July 2008 that will be too late for you to go for the Match in 2008. For that you should get ECFMG certified by Mid March 2008 (Match date for residency starting July 2008) and it will be imposible unless you have your MD. Try to take all the USMLE steps (1,2 CK and CS) by Mid May 2008. That way you can get your ECFMG certification by the time you apply (September 1). Also pls make sure that the specialty of your choice participates in the regular match becuase some specialties do " early match" (SF Match), which means you have to be ready by August 1 (I think) and the match date is in January. (One of those specialties is neurosurgery... I am not sure about the rest....) I hope this helps. Good Luck!
