Hi guys, I am stuck in a very serious delimma and i was hoping i could get some advice: I am appearing for CS in August. so i went for the visa interview 2 weeks ago (Feb). (wanted to be early rather than late). VO was very nice and after a couple of innocent questions he said : ok you are welcome to the US but i can issue a 3-month single-entry visa and if i approve now it may be ready in 2-10 days and from that date your 3 months starts! so i suggest you to come back ~ 1 month before August so the 3 months period actually includes august!! he gave the documents back but kept the application and gave me his personal card and told me to call him to come without an appointment in July. But i am also applying for an elective that if it gets approved (probably for ~4 weeks), it would be great to do it right after the CS exam on the same visa without having to come back. now the problem is i wrote in DS-156 that i am going only for "CS" and want to stay only for "1week". if i get the elective : 1- should i mention to the VO at the 2nd interview that i want to stay 1 month longer? is it possible i might get rejected? 2-should i say nothing to the VO and only mention it at the "port of entry" that i want to stay for 1.5 month ? can they revoke my visa because of this "inconsistecy" between DS-156 and what i say? your help would be highly appereciated. thanks.

If the visa officer told you at US embassy that he is willing to give you 3 month single entry, then relax!!! At the port of entry they don't know what you wrote in form DS156. At the port of entry if you show papers for the elective + CS exam appointment, I don't see any reason of them not giving you a full 3 month or at least 1.5 months stay on your form I-94. Also, HAd I been you I won't have told the visa officer about another reason, if he is already willing to give you a 3 month period visa.... I think you just need to relax!!

From where you are asking for visa? I got mine from Dubai. The visa duration is stamped at port of entry in US not in embassy outside the country.

i applied in europe. 3 months means if i get it, i will be able to "enter" the US within 3 months. but as i said i told the consulor i just want to stay for 1 week. should i change my words?

It doesn't matter what you said on I-156 regarding the why and duration of visit. Just be cool with the officer and ask directly the questions, no redundacy. If officer ask you what you are gonna, say him/her the truth and add while smiling I wanna see untied stated and enjoy life for 3-4 months after exam or attend a course at medical school, don't say unfamiliar words like elective. course is enough. Hopefully, you will get six month. In case you get 3 monthd, you can apply with visa extension 45 days before I-94 expiray date, or change your status to F. not J-research. J is problematic, F and B are changeable to anything later. Grab your visa now, who knows what is going on tomorrow....got my point...?
