first year residency is called the internship year here....is that waht r u asking about?
if yes, then he has to be ECFMG certified, and enter the competition, apply allover, get interviews, attend them, then prematch, or match....as like everyone else here.

There is a student internship also. Good luck with the search for hospitals for student rotations.
