Kaplan Qbank USMLE

hi people,

I took the exam today and it went okay. For me it was exactly like Step 1. I know, saying if it was easy or hard would be subjective so i'll just say this. Fifty percent of the questions were basic like usmle cd that comes in mail. Another 30 percent was NBME form 2. Ten percent needed Good step 1 knowledge and understanding of pathophysiology while another 5-10% were either Vague or weird/rare diseases. About the length of questions, I had practiced New kaplan qbank and i used to finish the block with 12 minutes left to review. The Real exam question was mostly 8 lines excluding lab values. About 5% were very long but they are evenly distriuted and also to balance that they give you 5% of extremely short questions. But even with all this practice of finishing New Kaplan Qbank pretty quickly, i was somehow left with 5-6 minutes in the end to spare in the real exam. My problem was the same as step1. I dint sleep well i.e only between 2.30a.m till 6,20a.m. Although i tried every trick(except alcohol and sleeping pills) i just couldnt sleep. I had a bad headache so in the first block i was sleepy. Then it started getting better around 4rth block but then again last two to three blocks were big struggle. Exam is very doable but you must have the mental capacity to last nine hours. I know its hard to score well on a relatively easy exam but i would still prefer it to the horror show some of our forum friends went thru in dec and jan.

My advice.

Read Basics very well (rare fancy stuff is just that rare!)

Prepare yourself physically for the exam.

Get Sleep anyway you can. This can make of break your day. I know if i had slept well it would have been different.

Goodluck.

thanx sarika for sharing your experience with us & all the best ....u'll do gr8...I've a question....do we need to review step 1 pathophysio & stuff for the exam or it's just basic stuff that we can easily recall...the reason I'm asking is b/c I took step 1 a while ago & I'm not sure if i rememeber most of stuff from step 1.....thanks & GL.

Thankyou friends for the wishes. I am kind of feeling crazy as i dont have to live by the clock anymore.

Hey jamdoc, if you get a similar exam like mine, then i would say step2 Firstaid can be very helpful.

snake. All subjects in my exam were evenly distributed. Surgery was a little weird but thats because im not good at it.There are two kaplan qbanks one is the old one everyone has downloaded from forums. Otherone is the online version you pay for. I had seen the old one , which is easier than the new online one. Also new kaplan qbank is very good for time management. I didnt do usmleworld online so i dont know about that.

Dr. Luck i think step 1 stuff was easy you would remember e.g hungtington has triple repeat...If you want u can go thru step 1 firstaid it wont take more than half day.

Gupta i have never taken sleeping pills so i couldnt try anything new. Besides that who would prescribe me i.e "the suicidal USmle candidate" a bottle of BZ?grin

Goodluck to all the members of this forum. The way you guys solve questions here, that exam will be a cake walk for all of you INSHAALLAH!

Thankyou everyone.

hi docus i only did firstaid and educational obj from UW(Although i dint have to i had added everything to FA). In an anxious state of mind last week, I decided to read management and treatment of common diseases. But it was of no use. They ask basic stuff so dontw aste your time reading huge texts last week.

Hey cocacola good to see you...How is it going? Best of luck for ur upcoming exam.

Hi Sarika, just had a q, abt kaplan q-bank, for how many months did u buy it? If u dont mind can u share ur cmulative on it, also how many blocks did u do in a day?
Thanks a lot for ur help.

  #22

hi docus i bought it for one month, from jan23-feb22...my score unused mixed ranged from 75-78...i tried to do 2 blocks back to back and then took notes from their explanations.

  #23

Thanks a lot Sarika, for sharing ur experience, u will do really gr8 inshaallah, u r very helpful. U r so prompt in replying every ones queries.
When u had kaplan q-bank were u able to read ur theory in that month? pls let me know, how u managed both in that month.
Thanks a lot again
May God bless u with u a 99, inshaallah.

  #24

Thankyiu docus. Its really no problem at all.

I used to get just 4-5 hrs for studying at night so while doing kaplan qbank i really dint have much time left to study the theory except maybe an hour. But i still wanted to complete kaplan qbank since i paid for it just for a month. Also i used to get more time on weekends so i would do 4-5 blocks on weekend. Thats how i finished it.

I am no 99er. I will be happy if i get anything around my step 1 score. May Allah help us all and reward us for the hardships . AMeen

Hey sarika...Congratulations again..

Thanx for sharing ur experience...Hope to get some advice from u...

I am around 3 wks away from exam. I am confused How to use FA...
I am revising Kaplan notes now.. almost done now.. Should I revise it once more or do 1st read of FA..or should I do FA it in last 7-10 days with my UW notes.

one more thing in these last days I am very much tempted to refer to CMDT.. as till now I hav only used Kaplan notes..

do u think its of any good to try to refer CMDT ??

Thanx in advance
