Kaplan Qbank USMLE

Yea friends at last it is done. the relaxation we feel after all these long very long days of prep is really great. initially i thought i would write my experience only after i get my result, then i thought better i scribble nw when the memory is still fresh. I remember the tons of experiences here in the forum that i had gone thru, each and everyone is unique and u wilkl learn something from them all, so i thought may be mine also will help somebody somewhere.

overall my exam was doable. the first 2 blocks were easiest, next 2 ok, easier then next 2 difficult and the last one not too bad not too easy. all subjects were equally tested except mol bio, embryo . pharmac also not too muchwink lucky for me. few experimental Qs, one or two mice Qs which i didnt spend time thinking, just clicked on whatever letter i found easy to click.

the style was very similar to Q bank, avg length 2 step Qs. Few of them tested very simple basic facts that i found myself wondering whether they asking for this or is there any trap. so initially i spend some time reading such Qs again, some needed guess work.

I had ethics Qs in almost all blocks and i dont know hw well i did in it. lucky that didnt get much genetics and stat calculations. But syndromes were there but only the high yield ones.

physio Qs also were there in all blocks, mainly in the form of graphs, here i made a mistake. I always thought that i was strong in physio so spend most of my last days with weak subjects and in the end i messed up so simple graphs just bs i cudnt recollect them at the moment.

sorry for the discontinuity some trouble with computer

so pls review all the graphs the day before exam so that u dont have to spend much time thinking on such easy to answer Qs. then as usual endocrine was there but CVS was the core. lot of Qs in all possible ways they can ask

anatomy was there but Kaplan was more than enough.Neuroanatomy was less tested than i expected. very few Qs related to eye and long tracts., but all presented in unique clinical scenarios.

Micro yes i had lot of them, all the highyield bugs viruses. immunology i think few Qs regarding agammaglobulinemias and hypersensitivity.it is good to revise the last 3 chapters in micro again and again rather than going thru whole of the book. those 3 chapters has everything that is highyield.

biochem G6PD def and few important storage disorders were asked. graphs on enzyme kinetics and few Qs combined with pharmac was asked. but it was doable.

pharmac was my weak sub but didnt have much. anaesthetics, mabs and cvs drugs were asked. No complex calculations. one structure was given to identify for which i had no clue so just guessed something. then there was a drug which i hadnt heard off, so pharmacology keeps worrying me.

Path yea scattered here and there mostly general path, and then vasculitis and CVS. few pictures some of them Qs itself enoough but one or two i had to guess from the picture.

thats it. I reached the centre just 5 min before my scheduled time as i got late after dropping my baby at the school and there was a massive traffic block. But the people at the centre were so nice and went thru the proceds fast so that i was infront of the screen at right time, went thru tutorials to calm me down and after first block took break to take my breakfast. it is definitely a long and tiring day and by the end of 6th block i was having a bad headache. By the time i reached the survey page my God i felt so happy that atleast it is going to be over.

Nw it is the anxious waiting time....Hope God will help me.

thanks for the wishes friends

tee40,

i meant KaplanLN micro section last 3 chapters, the flow charts, summary and vignettes. there u can find everything USMLE would ask about, or atleast in an exam like mine.

euphoric,

my sources were KAPLAN LN 2003 edn for everything, even for patho. But for my second read i used BRS patho( thanks to VALLIA). During 1st read, just like everybody i also started FA,but it tapered off. Moreover I liked to stick to Kaplan and my own handwritten highyield notes from Kaplan.
