hi,

i was reading different posts on this forum regarding scramble. Many suggests thiat its better to scramble if u r in US.

I have my doubts regarding this as programs r not going to interview during scramble period.

Also J-1 visa is sponsered by ECFMG and not residency programs so if someone is willing to take up J-1 visa programs may offer position. As those who are matched with J-1 visa also starts visa processing only after match results which is after 2 days of scramble.

Also statastics suggest that US citizen IMG and non US citizen IMG has the same chances of getting match.

If someone got the position in scramble without being present in US kindly share your experience.

thanks.

I would think that the only advantage to scramble if you are in the U.S. may be the speed and convenience that you can contact programs by phone/fax and for them to contact you. Scramble is difficult for everyone so you have to decide if you can afford to stay in the US during this time

"programs r not going to interview during scramble period"

Not necessarily dude, they might call you for a personal interview and you too might wanna consider it if the prog is in your vicinity.
But I agree with mvat that the basic difference is the convenience of contacting programs.

Hi everyone,

thanks for reply. I would like to know from bbb regarding scramble from outside of US.

bbb u r one of the senior member of this forum so your advise will be appreciated.

Also if someone is scrambling from outside US what will be the main factor of rejection or not getting match :

Is it due to difficulty in communicating with the programs during scramble period or is it due the requirement of visa

Kindly reply.

It's going to be hard to appear for an interview if the program wants to fill the position within days. If they are willing to wait for you to get a flight and are booking interviews out a couple of weeks, then you might have a chance.

Another non-answer from bbb

hi,

thanks bbb for your reply. I have one more question. During scramble period does programs always take personal intervies at the hospital before offering position or programs do take telephonic interview and offer the position to candidate. then u can get residency even not travelling to US.

I will be glad if u can advice on this.

thanks

I think the most common reason you are likely to be rejected in the Scramble is NON-AVAILABILITY......which could mean Visa issues, Non-certification by ECFMG, Militray duties, J1-waiver requirements, foreign residence....you name it. Key to scramble is AVAILABLITY....you have to be free to join them ASAP......any reason that keeps you from doing so is a downer....IMO. everything else is secondary in my opinion. Of course they do matter but I mean if you are being considered for a position in the scramble i am sure they have reviewed you other credentials already.....???!!!!
