gave my exam 2 weeks ago, finally mustered up energy to write down my experience over all i found it much easier than step 1, maybe because i was expecting the unfamiliar. it was, as the say, somewhere between kaplan and uw. not as hard as uw and not as easy as kaplaln. 40-45% ... were actually very short stemmed questions ... 3 to 4 lines.... 30-35% were long stemmed with a lot of useless information, and only in 5 -10% i had move down the cursor; and that only because the list of choices was long. for most of the questions i would have an answer formed in my mind after reading the stem and the answer would be in the list. the first three blocks were a breeze.... needed more concentration during and after the 4th block.... so taking breaks helped.... i had 55 mins for break cuz finished tutorial in 5.... took my first break after the first two blocks, for 5 mins... then 15 mins break after 4th block... had to break for 2 to 3 mins after the 5 th block to just refocus but i spent it on the seat... then 15 mins break after 6th bloclk and again 15 mins break before the last block. basically keeping the energy level and concentration level up is very important. the longer questions are not very hard, just have to read carefully the last 4 blocks i had to sometimes read the questions twice to concentrate. for the first 4 blocks, i would finish with just 2 to 3 seconds... i.e. just in time but for the last 4 blocks had 2 to 3 minutes so all in all i think it wasnt a bad experience now just waiting for the result good luck to everyone..... if i can do it... so can everyone else !!!

thank you guys!!! well my prep was somewhat unusual because for personal and professional reasons i was travelling alot; so apart from the last 2 months of prep i couldnt sit in one place and study.... i gave my step 1 in early 2006.... after that i had the books with me with intentions of giving step 2 asap; however i couldnt do that did my first reading very slowly... used kaplan and with that did kaplan qbank with the first reading.... i was also doing any questions i could get my hands on... then in november i started uw and second kaplan reading with that... i made my own notes with uw.... and sometimes looked at emedicine, only when i was confused or was interested in a topic.... finished uw 6 weeks before the exam.... my score was 53 for uw ranging from 43 to 67 then went on to the 3rd reading and the wrong qs in uw.... and i think that helped alot in the exam!!! i also did step 2crush during that time then i gave nbme one week before... got 500 and the last week i revised crush and uw wrong qs if i could give any advice, it would be to do uw as much as possible... i.e revise it.... sure the questions would not be exactly the same... but the concepts are similar.... and especially the ones you get wrong... well its only practice and revision now ofcourse i am not 100% certain that i did great... i can only say that i had a good feeling after the exam!!! that wasnt present when i had given step 1 basically its true that it requires great concentration but to be sure; its doable so good luck to everyone who still has to give it

thanks.... well i did get almost similar scores on both nbme cuz i did them back to back but i would say that i nbme 2 was easier than 1 so it depends on you.... i guess you can do nbme 2 first and if you have time... do nbme 1

congrats. in your opinion is it essential to do both uw & kaplan qbank? i am doing uw and its taking a heck of a long time. i dont think i will have time for kap qbank. also i was wondering when people say they revised uw, did they go over all the questions or just wrong ones? i am doing uw in tutor mode and getting a pathetically low score any pieceof advice? thanks & gl for the scores

well, i found kaplan qbank very easy... also i did it with the first reading before uw.... but i did the old version, they say that kaplan has updated its qbank so i dont have any first hand info on that. But i believe that uw is fairly sufficient... treat it as a learning tool, dont worry about the scores... when revising the uw, i only had time to do the wrong questions.... also i would suggest that you mark the questions which in your opinion are hard for you even if you get them right.... that way you can get back to them by attempting only the marked questions and the wrong questions.... repeating the whole uw would i guess be a waste of time in my opinion so its better to keep on revising the wrong qs, cuz obviously those r trouble spots.

i was told that first aid for step 2 is not helpful at all, so i didnt use it at all.... i just used crush, which i thought was adequate.

Hi, after a long wait.. i finally got my scores 88/217 i am not going to say i wasnt disappointed but i guess it was a bit better than my step 1 so i cant complain i guess at this time i can only say that it was more or less exactly like the nbme score so i would have to be a believer in the accuracy of nbme good luck to everyone else
