I'ver heard it is very hard. Last year there were only 99 open IM positions for scramble.

I don't know. It is very difficult if you need visa.

hi i tried last year in scramble. though i was in my home country some did reply . i think they were mistaken becuz as soon as they knew i need visa there was no more communication. i wish u luck in match and hope that we don't have to go through scramble. good luck

Do scramble if you want.......but my advise is PREPARE FOR THE NEXT YEAR.......the odds are against us guys.....its going to be probably 3.000 applicants for 80 positions..... I did scramble last year and it was a waste of time.

hi aajkal,
As u told u tried for last year scramble from your home country. Is it diificult to get if u need visa. AS Visa processing J-1 or H-1 starts only after match day which is after 2 day scramble.
Is it difficult even if u are willing to take up J-1 visa as ECFMG sponsers visa and not the residency programs. i can understand its difficult to get H-1 with scramble.
Kindly tell us more about this and share your experience

Once you call them and they hear your accent, they ask about visa status right away, if it is OK, still you will never hear from them.
Scramble is for AMGs.period, even between AMGs there is alot of competition.
I thing times are over. Times when this country needed IMGs are over!
The economy sucks and there is no money for the own people. It is time to look at the big picture guys. Stop sticking your head in sand trying to be "optimistic". It does not work. Stay where you are in your country, respect yourself and do your best there. It makes me sick when I see all these IMGs here begging for observership and now paying large sum of money just to shadow. Why?
This is my advise and if you still ready to do everything just to come here, you will remember these words of mine later.

It is true that is is extremely hard for IMG's to get a position in the scramble, but it is possible... so it is up to you to decide if you want to take the chance and go for it. You should go with the idea that the opportunity to get the position is dim, so do not put all your eggs in that basket, and also plan for the next match.

Surprise to see in 21 st or 22 nd century , in this globalization world , with loudest democracy shouting for other countries have problems with IMG [ IMg also include the local born here, go to other out of country med school too ]. After all most of us here in Western world are not from this part of the world at all , if trace back to history.
Humans are humans, what if Mars come , will human will still bite, fight each others, think about that.
No one wants to leave their home country, after achieving that high as MBBS or MD of their original country, to invest time [ cannot buy back with money], sacrify socially, financially [ hard to find , with western money always win] ...to learn new langue, life style, culture.. different value from where they were born, there are so many situations, reasons. But mostly are created by the human itself, either from your own or mostly from out of .
But one thing for sure, it is not livable, has so many danger, that is why people migrate , like most of us from Europe etc, to land of opportunity to United State of America etc.
Especially in this professional, all should respect each , all are trained to treat human , save the life . Can we have our own hospital , ED, med team to go with us, when we're vacationing, or on bussiness , etc trip , short or long around the world. We all do accept their treatment, care.
There even vacationing, retreat surgery, treatment across the world, where the same Drs which we're asking to go through the expensive, lenthy pricy exam to get practice here or same place but, some time have our Drs from here to go there, depends on how much can you pay.
World Peace, may all dreams come true if it is for ...

I really would not like to leave my country, but in here the people is so damn corrupt that there are people paying 5,000 dollars for a residency position, 30,000 apply each year and there are only 5,000 positions SO THAT’S WHY IM LEAVING is so sad to write this but is the truth……. I rather pay 5,000 dollars for the usmle and ecfmg than giving it for bribe!!!!

and yes,IMGs do get positions through the scramble. I did. so did other 5 candidates who were at the interview with me. they all got J-1.
there's nothing impossible. now I am a strong believer.

Although there maybe exceptions, in most cases it is difficult for an IMG to get through the scramble if he wants a visa, otherwise he/she is definitely in with a chance!
