Hi all,

I'm about to start studying pathology from Goljan's new Rapid Review. I hope to be able to finish everything in 10 days... my plan is to listen to the audio lecture first and then read the chapter. For questions, I'll do Robbins Pathology.

However, I have a question regarding my second reading, namely what should I read? Obviously I'll have less time, so the full Goljan book is out. I don't want to read the BRS, and the First Aid will be for the final days only, so what should I read? Should I stick with FA for the 2nd reading?

Or should I just read the 2 Goljan spiral books (the ones that can be downloaded everywhere) instead?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Wht u shud have done was which apparently might have hel;ped u was u shud have combined the Spiral Notebook with His Audio Lectures in ht efirst read n for the 2nd Audios n New RRbut now just switch the combination as a friend of mine tells me (who has the New RR) that the Spiral Book is still good for the Concept Building. So jkust Switch things n u will do fine n trust me in if u know ur Goljan Inside out u wont need FA or anything for that matter

I haven't even done the 1st reading yet.

You mean I should do the spiral book with audio for first read and for the 2nd read the Rapid Review with the audio? Doesn't the Rapid Review take longer to read? Or is it the other way around?

Make ur Concepts with the Spiral Book then go for the New RR combine Audios with both. The RR will look like a walk thru the park once u have ur concepts made it will be easier to finish n revise the book.

ur first 2nd and 3rd (even if 4th) read should be from the same book! why switching books? make page memory! that would help!

so FA + Goljan + Robin questions is a great idea

Thanks for the advice new_n_lost.

What is a realistic time-frame for studying pathology from Goljan? I know you can get bogged down in pathology for 3 months and never seem to finish, but I plan on dedicating around 8-10 days for pathology.

How would you suggest incorporating the questions? Should I finish 2-3 Goljan topics (example, inflammation, cell injury, hemodynamics) then do Robbin Questions, or should I finish the whole thing first and then attempt the Robbins?

Dinosaur .............buddy the first read with Goljan combined with audios is a 20 day cycle (when reading every pg twice ) and a Second read 10 days. dont attempt Robins questions unless u feel sure u know inside out of the topic n then u can easily do it. This is wht i have done.

Inkspot......... Buddy have u seen the New RR i was talking abt that one it doesnt help ur concepts but if u have the concept pg memory comes as an additive effect

These r my 2 cents they worked for me, do wht works for u

Ok, I have 15-20 days for path, but I don't think I have the 10 days for a second read... what do you suggest? Besides rescheduling the test I mean.

Make the time buddy cos a hasty prep is not going to yield better results but maybe u might be able to do it earlier.

i am also going to start pathology.......
and from the above discussions i have concluded to do
1st reading-audio + notes

dinosaur, I have done Goljan audio + spiral book in the first read but I have studied path as the last subject before starting a second rapid review of all the subject. My advice is to do audio + spiral book and as the second read just go quickly through the spiral book. When you do first read you should mark particularly those concepts you didn't know so that in the second read you can focus on them. Why reapeting things you already know?

After each chapter in first read I suggest doing robbins review qs to see whether you're ready or not to go ahead. They will seem to you so easy if you've done goljan stuff properly. I think >75% is reasonable percentage to switch to the following chapter (but of course aiming for 80-85 would be better).

Another useful thing I think is coupling goljan stuff with BSS series. Their qs are tough but are a very good way to review the systems you are studing also from pharm and phys point of view. The BSS series, whose athors include goljan, are a collection of tough qs on different sistems (for instance resp+CV+hemathology); i mean not only path qs but of qs all subjects. The state that ">75% correct answers is a sign of substantial strenght" that I translated as "more than 70% is already preatty good". But I think this should be used as a reviewing tool more then a testing one. I would do at least 100qs from each book upon completion of the related topics from goljan
