i have a quiery-just search out the following contradicting statments:-(refer ganong page 668) 1.lowering of blood pH causes right shift to oxygen-Hb curve. 2.increase in blood pH causes increased 2,3DPG formation in RBC's and increased 2,3DPG causes right shift to the curve. that is indirectly increased blood pH causes ridht shift which contradicts 1. ponder ovr the facts and tell the answer if u get one.

well there is no contradiction in alkalosis we have left shift of OBC (initially), but if you reffer to high altitude, due to increased glycolysis (in alcalosis) we have incr content of 2,3BPG in RBC which overweight OBC to the right (due to decreased affinity of RBC to O2 = it gives away oxigen to tissues easyer) besides, in resp alkalosis compensation is met acidosis

Its a simple Concept which Babydoc has explained good. AS one effect shift the curve to left the other response shifts it to the right. Look in Acclimaztion pg 686 Ganong.
