Kaplan Qbank USMLE

Hi bros & gulls
I was not a silent member of this forum though I talked only when needed. Here is my detailed outlook of step 2 ck
step2 ck 99\261
Duration required to prepare 7months
(well stakes were high bcoz I got 99\247 in step 1 so I really prolonged the prep time ,also my original exam lasted for only 30 min due to some software problem so I was sent a new permit to retake the exam, well none the less all is well that ends well)
Books only Kaplan
Usmle world 50% had the book form, used it to prepare ,not for examining my studies
kaplan q bank CD form available from book stores in PAk
First Aid (Boy I love this book )my first line of attack
3 revisions in all
Exam taken
1 feb 2007
result 21 feb 2007

My judgement of exam
mix of long and short questions
time management not a issue if already taken step 1
read the last line
if queastion had labs then read the labs after reading the last line (there was a q regarding SLE which had ANTI SMITH AB in labs, do
I have to read the whole q to diagnose it? I think not all smith is specific)
Some bloody....Qs whose answers didnt make any sense .so I gussed and moved ahead accepting my inability to solve instead of getting panic eeeeed
Its doable donot let the fear of defeat conquer you.Do your best so that tomorrow you shouldnt repent.
Pray to god\Allah ,be nice to your parents and family ask them to pray for you in return.I believe prayers can change your fortune
Do not get hopeless make your own judgement, hear what other say about the exam ,but do the way your heart and mind tells you

About this forum
I really got depressed when I read few posts, but some were really good.Well every one has its own subjective assessment of exam, you have to pick only those things which can improve you.
well its time to give cs now
will be going for 2008 match
bye

Cong on your wonderful success! I admire it.

Could you please tell me how you studied surgery and OB/GYN? I am weak on these 2 parts and looking for an efficient way to improve them.

Thanks

  #10

congratulations. That is a really high score.
I took the test on Feb 10th, and it was a saturday. I don't know whether I can get the result next week or I need to wait one more week. I had a lot of questions about surgery, and almost all the genetic diseases I know showed up in my test. Some diseases even showed up twice

Well as regards surgery and GYN/OBST I had ** in these sub meaning my score in these subj crossed the upper limit .the trick is to prepare with kaplan/first aid & most importantly exam day is the deciding day.concentrate on the exam day and give your best only at this day
Liwei
yah would you believe in my last block I had two similar Qs from septic shock. Some topics are tested many a times I guess it makes things a bit easier .I had many Qs with NBSIM
Sarika
I hope you have given this exam. You really took a really long time.

Hi, everyone, first of all, i want to congratulate everyone whos done the exam, and achieved one of the many goals up ahead.
Second i want to introduce myself. I'm an img from panama, right now doing my internship in my home country, planning to take the boards as soon as i finish my internship, but i have a little problem. I haven't decided which to take first, either step 1 or step 2 ck, since im working in the hospital and seen patients whatever i tought it would be easier to take step 2 ck.

what is your recommendation since you guys have experience in the examns? would i get better results taking step 1 first or something??

Congrats that is an amazing score. i do have one question, did you watch the much talked about videos? if yes, are they an absolute must if one wants a good score? thanks and good luck.

excellent score quaidiannod

hi quaidian Big congrad.s smiling face

i have some questions i was hoping you could answer: i took my step 1 last year and i am starting to prepare for step 2ck soon and i am very confused about the prep.

1-basically for this step, do you think it's worth it if i revise everything from step 1? do they test e.g. mechanism of diseases or drugs, receptors, micro cultures, immunology? my score was fine (99/245) but it will take some time to go over step1 stuff.

2- coming from a european school, i have almost no clinical experience. i mean we didn't get to see alot of patients on our rotations. do you think if i know the theory well, will this effect me? do i need more time?

3- the kaplans for step 2 are so thin compared to step1. are they really enough? i mean e.g. surgery is about hundred something pages half of which are clinical viggnetts!! and one tiny chapter for ophthalmology or radiology!!

4- are the "treatments" in kaplan current or i have to go other books for the latest protocols they use in US?

i would really appreciate if you could help.

thanks smiling face
