Safe for administration: • Aminoglycosides. • Amoxycillin. • Amoxycillin-clavulanate. • Antitubercular drugs. • Cephalosporins. • Macrolides. • Trimethoprim-sulphamethoxazole. - Effects not known/to be used with caution:
• Chloramphenicol. • Clindamycin. • Dapsone. • Mandelic acid. • Metronidazole (low dose). • Nalidixic acid. • Nitrofurantoin. • Penicillins. • Tetracyclines. - Not recommended:
• Metronidazole (single high dose). • Quinolones.

Where did u find this question is it NBME one plz do tell the source All right this was tough one, To date i always thought that All these drugs cause toxicities in nursing babies but i have found certain journals say that Although Aminoglycosides r secreted in small amounts in breast milk therefore they shud be avoided on theoretical grounds and only Low dose MTZ shud be prescribed now this confuses me cos as the major books say the effects of Mtz have not been established in nursing babies n mothers same goes for Aminoglycosides.

just lookwhat I found in the Harriet Lane Handbook(2000) it gives 5 categories: 1-compatible...propylthiouracil,cimetidine 2-use with caution 3-unknwonwith concerns...metronidazol,chloramphenicol 4-contraindicated 5-safety not established...aminoglycosides

think its aminiglycoside.. bein ionic although its secteted in breastmilk.. it doesn't get absorbed p/o ... so infant's safe..
