I came here in August 2005 on J1R.212 e rule applies to me.My scholarship was for non health related subject and it was funded by US govt.My Ds 2019 is expiring in May but my visa is valid till september.I want to do my residency.I have talked to ECFMG.they have given me 2 options if I match.
1-TRY TO GET CATEGORY CHANGE AFTER MAY THROUGH ECFMG.ECFMG WILL SEND MY CASE TO DOS AND FINAL DECISION WILL BE BY DEPT.OF STATE
2-I SHOULD EXIT AFTER MAY AND GET J1 PHYSICIAN STAMPED FROM MY HOME COUNTRY
Can any one pl tell me what should I do.Should I file the case through ECFMG or exit.If I exit can I come back with out getting visa restamped as I already have J1R stamped till September or Can I get J 1 physcian visa stamped from Canada. Is there any restriction on getting new J 1 stamped in a different category
If I try to get visa changed with in US what are my chances. Is DOS going to do it easily or they are tough about it?
Any one pl .I know you people are not lawyers but may be some one can advise me or some one can tell me about good lawyer. This stress is killing me.I am fighting with my kid my wife and every body.Pl help me and tell me if some thing can be done
thanks

file case thru ecfmg. u wil anyways need a waiver of ur j1.
dos petition is a big headache and u might not start ur residency on time.
however atleast u wil have this job with u and can be continued in the worst case scenario of ur petition getting rejected and u can reapply next yr with a j1 waiver and go for an h1. if u leave the country then ur j1 clinical might get rejected as u have not fulfilled the 2yr home return requirement of 212e and also dont have a waiver.
j1 research is probably the trickiest visa to be on.
pm me and i could get u in touch with a couple of ppl who i know did it successfully.

Don't leave the country. Try to waive 212e here through ECFMG.
