huyniid, don't worry too much on the jetlag. You are not going to feel sleepy during the testsmiling face When I took my step 1 last year, once i sat in front of the computer, I felt my heart was almost coming out!

I am thinking to take NBME1 early this week but I am so scared to take it. I know I should and I think I will do it as early as possible.

  #52

Hi be confident huyniid

Good luck.

huyniid,

don't forget to bring earplug and ibuprofen just in case.. BE COOL!

GOOD LUCK!!!

  #58

ALS@ thanks for the earplugs!!! I nearly forget it. I heard ppls in the center speak, type and make noise that interfere with our concentration sad I need to look for one sad

  #59

most of the grocery store should have earplugs. The center provides the big headphone type, but you might want to buy a pair of small earplugs..

  #60

Good luck Huyniid

O day left smiling face

Finally I did it ! I have just come back from the prometric

Here are some of my experience about my Test:

1. The test Qs were not so long as I thought. There were around 7-8 long Qs in each block. Therefore, I think time management is not a problem here, although I usually finished on time (no remaining time left in each block).

2. The Qs stem is straightforward, and not so vague as in NBME. The structure is the same as NBME. However, there are many questions with so many choices (>15) so I usually read the content, think of the Ans and look for it.

3. In my test, I saw many cases of musculoskeletal, surgery, and neurology. All of them asked me about the basic and common diseases. I felt that musculoskeletal were heavily tested in my exam sad. Psychiatry were not difficult, as well as ethics. Statistic Qs appeared once or twice in each block. Peds and Surgery were asked on common diseases. Rare dz are really rare

4. Most of them asked about the diagnosis. Qs about Rx were not heavily tested as in UW

5. As I said above, Qs was like NBME, and some were the same that I did. I think UW Qs are harder, and Qbank Qs are distracted and too detail.

My performance was not so sastified, I marked 7-8 Qs each block which I had to consider and thought for a while. The remaining I could choose the Ans that I thought it was correct.

I think you guys can do it, and good luck to all

Now I have to think of my CS exam and my step 1 sad sad

One important thing that I should mention here, the problem is not the Qs itself, but the 9 hour Test !!!

Congrates huyniid! I am so HAPPY for you! Sounds like you have done a great job!

Thanks for sharing your experience with us. It calms me down a little bit.

8 days left for me, I am getting more and more nervous...

  #67

ALS, don't be so tense. I think reviewing Kaplan and UW in the last days is important, and you have done with them

Good luck

  #68

I didn't review Kaplan lately, I only read the note once(a couple of months ago), did UW twice. I hope I can read one more time of IM note at least and review FA(has note from UW) once before my test.

I guess I should not spend a couple of days on Qbank, i should read my IM note instead.

huyniid,

I will see you over CS once I am done with CK on March 31st!

We old IMG can do itsmiling face

  #70

I am an old IMG. I GRADUATED IN 1993,INTERNSHIP 1994. Last year I cleard all the exams and scores 93/91 step 3 82. I did apply for match to but I didnot get any interviews. The reason I see is lack of observership, few and badly selected programs applied. After med school, I did ophth residenmcy in my home country and was practisisng till I moved to US IN 2005.
This year I am planning to do observership and select the programs oproperly.
Is it really hard if I am old? does no programs like old poeple like us. Some time I go through real pessimistic attitude and feel that I am wasting time.
Any suggestion will be highly appreciated.

  #71

shy, it is very important for IMG, old or new, to have some clinical experience in this country, to know their system and to get good letters from the US doctors. I know some people are even older, have successfully matched. so give a shot this year, get any experience you can get, externship is the best but hard to get. Observership is the least you need to do. You have such a good background back in your home country, I am sure you will impress those US doctors during your observership.

and you must alreday know, it is difficult to get into Ophth since it is one of the most competivie ones... You might have to consider others too..

Good luck!

  #72

thanks hyunid,FOR EXAM EXPERIENCE,, and goodluck ALS

  #73

Thanks for sharing your experience huyniid, good luck with your score.
ASL, good luck with your coming exam

  #74

Thanks ALS
I am glad you replied. At present I am looking for observership. I certainly cannot afford externships. The plan for nest year is to look for prelim position in IM. I am also doing a research fellowship in an Ophth department. I have if someone just waits in a department then either they match you directly or if someone leaves you get matched. I dont know how much to rely on this.
Thanks to you once again for your input. I dont have any reservation in changing my specialty. But the problem is how to justify in PS and during interviews for changing the area.

Thankyou once again ALS. Goodluck to you and everyone.

  #75

Shy, thanks for coming by my preps and your story scared me.

I just come to US this year after a long time working at my home country and doing PhD oversea. I dont have any observership and/or externship. Are you doing research in Opth Dept here? I think that Opth is a hard choice in US, but you already had the advantage of working in the same field. You can try next year with a larger number of application. Your score is good, and so is your work, so dont give up.

I also think of doing observeship in some place nearby, but I dont know where and how to start. Just let do my best and see.

Good luck, Shy and ALS

Welcome neuroblastoma and hopedoc, good luck to your exams too
