I don’t’ like to give advises because I think we are old enough to know which it’s better for us and to learn what can to harmonize other ‘s experience with our self. I studied like 10 months but was on and of so , actually, were 6-7 months. I finished my medical school 3 years ago and biochemistry and basics concepts of pharma were so far away… I think the most important think is to think “I can do it”! Don’t think about the exam months before- it couldn’t help to study. I used suppression all the time – “I have to study not to think how the exam will be!”. The week before exam was tough – I thought I cannot study anything, everything in my head was like a “big cabbage” but I did some tests and I read my notes. I didn’t study anything in the day before, I took a sleep pill in the night before (very good idea!) and 0.125 mg of alprazolam in the morning (maybe was placebo but it worked!). I was relaxed and I guess this is the most important thing in the day of the exam! I took the exam in Boston and the person from prometric center asked me where am I from and when I answered to him he said to me “Bafta !” which means “good luck!” in my language ( he is American but he knew the word!). It's just my impression - the exam tests concepts! I studied from Lippincot for bioch, Kaplan for micro and Katzung for pharma ; those three were my weak points . My exam had some biochemistry concepts about key enzymes and diseases, some graphics ( like those from Katzung - if the patient takes drug Z and you injected drug Y what will happen?) and some side effects but not very complicated. I had a LOT of ethics questions- and now, when I am studying for step 2 I found the answers in the Kaplan DVD for step 2!!! Some pictures- not to hard but I didn’t know the answer for 3-4 because the stem question was like “The patient has this lesion/ The patient has this blood smear”. I had a lot of anatomy pictures / angiograms but were very easy. Not too many physio , micro or biochemistry q and a lot of patho with easy pictures because the stem q told me everything. So, over all, it’s a doable exam! The best questions are from USMLE world ( my opinion!) because even if they are very hard you can use them like learning tool! I did Kaplan qbank and qbook and were good too. And , for patho, I guess Robbins tests, are good! I still watch at my score report and I can not believe it- 241/99!

I think it's better to reinforce what you know- do tests, read your notes, look up for pictures! Actually I took USMLEworld 7 weeks before the exam and was very, very helpfull!

You will be fine, you just have to relax, take haw many tests you can and , for the last week, use your "short time memory" for some side effects or staff like this! I think FA is a very good book for last month!

Actually 2 digits score it's statistical which means they will send you comments like- the mean was X (217 in my case) and standard deviation was Y! Three digits score represent the no. of your right answers ( without 50 statistical q). I have a DVD with epidemio, biostatistics and ethics; is the same doctor like in step 1 classes for behavioral and epidemio!
