Consider a reaction that can be catalyzed by one of two enzymes ,A and B, with the following kinetics.
Km (M)---- ----- -- ------ V max (mmol/min)
A. 5 X 1O to the -6 power ------- 20
B. 5 X 10 to the -4 power ------- 30
At a concentration of 5 X 10 to the -4 power M substrate,the velocity of the reaction catalyzed by the enzyme A will be
A. 10
B. 15
C. 20
D. 25
E. 30
The answer is C WHY????????

Hi dear am-nicole :

V= Vm*[S] / Km + [S] so,

V= 20*(5*10 power -4 ) / (5*10 power -6) + (5*10 power -4)

V= 10 power -2 / 5*10 power -6 (1 + 100 ) , [1+100 ~ 100] (ignor 1)

V= 20

at 5X10 -4(ten to the power -4) A is at Vmax,so 20
