I am also an IMG and an old grad. I started reading patho a few months ago from Goljan notes according to recommendations on the forums. I really liked his notes and lectures but my problem was that when he integrates all the subjects , I used to be lost in all those complexities . I realized that I was not ready for his lectures still. So I finished other subjects ( except NA and histology ) and now I am reading patho from Robbins . I intend to get back to Goljan stuff after reading Robbins. I know most of the people on the forums do not recommend Robbins but I think we have to be honest to ourselves. No one else can judge our level of previous knowledge. In my case I have forgotton what ever I had read in my college days , there are new concepts to learn and I never studied to my full potential in my college. If your basics are strong and you were the top student in your class , then you do not have to work as hard as me . You should be fine with Goljan. If you are not able to retain Goljan then I guess you need to re evaluate your knowledge. Kaplan seems like abbreviated form of Robbins . This is the stuff that you are assumed to be already knowing before reading and listening Goljan. This is just my opinion . Hope I was able to help you a bit. An old grad who scored 99 on both steps has written very nicely about the preparation . His user name is askdoc. Read all his posts , they might be helpful. Wish you good luck.

Thanks Unique1. That helped. I felt the same when I started listening to Dr. Goljan. He is brilliant ...But I have not read all the other subjects yet. I started Patho after biochem cause everybody seems to be saying that it is the most important of all ...Patho Phys. I read Askdocs post...Am curious how much time did he or you devote to reading patho from Robbins. Are there any specific topics ? Thanks again

Moreqbank , I am glad to know that I was of some help to you. Well , I try to give 6 hours daily to my studies and (again) try to read 30 pages from Robbins but hardly ever succeed on doing that . I know it is hard to go through big books for people who have to take their test by a certain dead line. If you do not have such constraints , it is worth spending time on Robbins. I do qs from Robbins review of Pathology and BRS end of the chapter qs and I am happy with my scores . I hope I score this way on the real test too.

Robbins is too big a book to read for USMLE. I am reading Goljan notes but where I feel he has not covered the topic well, I am reading from Pocket Robbins (note that page # and read again even while revision). Pocket Robbins covers the details pretty well. It has been good so far. I am an old grad too - 6 yrs. Try it and let me know if I am on the right path.
