Dear BBB, Its been close to a year since I posted a message on this board. I did not match last year and took my failure positively and concentrated on my other work. This year I was more prepared and not only did I receive 4 times more interviews than last time but also signed a pre-match in a lovely hospital with friendly people. I would like to thank you a million times for being there for applicant IMGs like me.I never met you nor have a clue behind which program's office's computer monitor you're reading this, but just want to let you know that I pray that may God bless you and keep you happy all your life and your loved ones. I'm sorry I dont have anything else to offer but my sincere appreciation and words. If I can ever be of any service to you please PM me.Take care.

Thanks for everyone's ood wishes.I would also like to add tht this forum has been very supportive and its a very postivie forum (unlike the many others I've seen) To those who PM-ed me in asking abt increasing chances/tips or who were/are in similar situation as me: Well after finding out I didnt match I was looking for externship or observership......tried so many places and called alot of contacts but nothing materialized.....so I gave up on it an just continued with my research project in my home country. I did not even give the step 3 as I was very busy and didnt have the time to study. In the other hand I improved on my CV to make it more 'reader friendly' and also prepared a better updated PS and wrote from my heart. I applied on time in early september(in the previous match my application went in late towards october)which proved useful. Though I had contacts who tried to help me get interviews (2 interviews I got from contacts)........I received most of my interview calls through the 'proper' channel which I got 10 like tht.I think interview preraration is very important, something which I didnt concentrate on last time.Despite preparing well for my interviews 2 of it went quite badly...........so keep practicing and improving. The idea is to be as original and comfortable and 'pretend' like you're answerin their questions yet indirectly adding your strong points. I never lied or exaggerated my achievements (something which I saw other candidates do)but tried to highlight my strong points. On a couple of occassions, the interviewers looked surprised and said "You speak excellent english" and wanted to know how come my diction was so clear. You cant do much about accent but you can certainly improve on your sentence structure to make it variable and interesting with lots of adjectives! Also, try to answer questions as originally as possible......so tht its not as boring and monotonous as everyone's else........keep a niche basically! St the place I pre-matched I really thought I wont get a pre-match becoz I was not scheduled to interview with anyone on the selection team....not even the PD or the assoc. PD(otr candidates met them). In addition to tht, thr was someone who even did clinical rotation in tht same hospital......obviously they'll pick her I thought. But I got surprised when the faculty member took an instant liking towards me and suggested to the PD to offer me a pre-match.So you see anmything can happen anytime. My credentials: Graduation year:2003 No USCE 89/90/ecgmf certified........all on first sitting. Have publications and good research background.
