Does any good doc have a great "rock solid" definition for acute renal failure?? (I mean not like a girl, something that a 3rd year resident might say on rounds)

Ok. Ill answer my own q! For anyone who is tongue tied or who doesnt communicate much....
You want to sound good on rounds, so you might say (not saying too much and not saying too little)

An abrupt decrease in renal function causing retention of creatinine....
Leading to hyperphosphatemia. you 'd see a hyperkalemic, hypocalcemic high anion gap metabolic acidosis.

Acute renal failure is defined as an abrupt ,reversible decrease in renal function sufficient enough to result in retention of nitrogenous waste products, namely BUN and Cr---->Azotemia
The metabolic dearrangments you mentioned above, is usually seen in CRF and if ARF is left untreated.

Sorry mjl1717, dint see ur q before,thatz y i missed answering this q..
and pllss dont get upset, if no1 is showing interest in attempting ur q..ur qs are thought provoking and u have got nothing to lose if we dont answer ur qs..

Buddy, I specifically looked this up in CMDT and these parameters were for acute renal failure. What Ill do is compare and write about what is said for chronic renal failure....
