Nazila, have your Univ certified your medical degree and transcript? check on the oasis or call ECFMG and ask about this.

nazila what does it say in the OASIS? in the Credentials Information section, is your diploma received and verified? in the Standard ECFMG Certificate Information section, is your certificate sent? try calling them on the phone. emails get lost among 100s of others!! maybe they can not send it to iran?!

certainly "externship" it is real clinical hands-on experience.

If you are graduate, forget externship. That's for medical student. I did my observership for three months in University of Nebraska Medical Center. They offer you in Neurology Dept for free. There are other places in FL for $300 a month.

I think for "clerkship" you have to be in med school...externship is after graduation.but needs connections...

"clerkship" / "elective" / "rotation" = you should be a MED STUDENT in your last year. it is real hands-on clinical experience. very good for residency IV and a good chance maybe for LORs. "Externship" = same as clerkship BUT for graduates. again highly looked at during IV but harder to find one. --YES GRADUATES CAN DO THIS-- "Observership" =again for GRADUATES but least active one. you just basically follow the other docs and med students and mostly you are not allowed to touch any patients. it is not the best option but better than nothing at all.

Neither do I. I've never heard about GPs here. They may do some research or Medical rep job, not medicine. Primary care physician (one who does internal medicine in primary category) or family medicine doctors do the GPs' work here. GP system belongs to British system like England, Australia, India and UAE.

nima i didn`t study in iran so i don`t know the system there.but last year when i was in emam hospital one of the interns was talking about getting electives in UK... overall, i don`t think the chances are any different for iranians and others. we should be lucky to find one.

and by the way this is the official AAMC site. here you can search for schools giving out electives with all the details. http://services.aamc.org/eec/students/index.cfm be persistent. email and call all of them even if they wrote they don`t take IMGs. it is worth a shot no? i emailed many and afew ansewred positivetly. many require you to be from a US school and the others want you to have "malpractice insurance". for malpractice insurace topic go to USCE forum. there you find my post on top of the page (it is sticky). Good luck.

thank you dragon for the reply....but the problem is not American schools not accepting us...they require official transcripts released by home universities which is almost impossible to get because of TARH and those BS we have over here...that's why I'm looking for people getting these electives to ask how they managed to.... remember my avatar in case any of you saw one doing those electives...Homer with severe brain atrophy!!!

To Nazila This is the link: http://www.unmc.edu/dept/neurologicalsciences/ind... Email to Ms. Carol ERn at cern@unmc.edu To Nima: Some people deposit a lot of money or some thing valuable and can get the permit to come out of the country. For transcript try some connection, someone who willing to help you. GL to both of you.
