what ever book you use in my oppinion is enough for the step one , specialy kaplan notes is good , you have to add the online sites as university of utah link for the slides there are exelent explanations along with pictures , I think KAplan was enough , but I studied tones of aditional sources , and I scored very high in path, but again I think Kaplan with a good grasp is enough.do not forget no body has the time to study A-Z of medicine from every books.Goljan highyields and his audio help alot also. Good luck

It's true hedieh. I got 59% in UW and got 96/238 for step 2 CK. But I studied for three months more after having done with UW. So it really differs, if till the last day someone does UW and go for the exam, then 59% is not enough for getting more than 90 in real exam and score gonna be around 85. For scoring more than 90 one needs to get around 65% at least in UW. This is my idea. hope it helps.

For people who are applying this year, Just as a reminder: if you are applying for prelim and cat in internal medicine, send them two different PS, one for prelim IM and one for Cat. Don't apply for prelim and cat in a same program. If you know somebody in a program, call them and let them know that you are applying to their program.

To Nima, Categorical: You enter the program and spend 3-6 year as per specialty and you sing a contract for the whole course not for one year. Preliminary: This is just one year and you may spend in IM or surgery program. You sign the contract only for one year and after that you have to leave the program. There is one Prelim for Internal medicine and one for surgery. For radio, Neuro, you have to spend one year of internal medicine prelim. For Ophth, Neurosurgery and other surgey specilaties you have to go for prelim. Transitional: This is also for one year, but you spend each month in different rotation, surgical or medical. This is good for Patho, Ophth, Derm. It is much easier working as a transitional resident, so it is very competitive. However, it is not acceptable for some specialties like Neuro because you have to spend at least 8 month in IM for entering Neuro next year and you won't get this experience in Transitional. You may find more info on www.nrmp.org To Shohreh, Send email to PC in all programs in your city and also send email to all other hospitals like VA in your area. You may get a response. You may request for Observership or even attending Morning Reports, Grand Rounds or Noon Conference. state clearly that you don't want to touch any patient and this only for exposure to how a program or how a hospital works in American System. Good Luck, Amirhossein

Salam Doostan, Hi. I am very happy that I can ask my questions directly from Iranian fellows. Actually, I am very frustrated about my situation. I am graduated in 2003. From that time, I have two years of experience as a GP besides wide research experience all at University and in Academic atmosphere (with seven ISI publications). Very soon after, I came to Canada (THE CEMETERY OF TALENTS) and pursued as a MSc student which brought me two more significant publications. But unfortunately, I did not have time to pass USMLE exams (which I have planned to them in coming year). I have following questions. I will be so much grateful if you kindly answer my questions. I have lots of worries and really so hopeless about my future. 1. Considering the year of my graduation (2003) from and the engagement in research, and the point that I can not make good grades in USMLE exams if I want to reach Residency Match 2009. Will I still have chance for Match 2010 if I make good grades on exams? Which one is better, having high scores in expense of getting one year more of graduation gap, or finish the exams ASAP? 2. Actually, the graduation gap is considered from the year of graduation (2003) or from the year that I have been out of practice in Medicine (2005, I was working two years at Hospital and University Clinic while I was doing research)? Is doing research can be considered as I have done practice? 3. Will they disregard this big graduation gap by seeing that I have been involved in MSc in North America and taking into account my publications? 4. Is having PhD degree has positive effect while it will end in more graduation gaps? What about involving in PhD degree? Will it be interpreted as "my dream is not a Medical Residency"? I will highly appreciate if you kindly consider my emotional stresses and help me to make an appropriate decision. Many thanks in advance for all who take time and help me. Best,

deff. high scores and MS and /or Phd are advantages, gap in graduations is one of the concerns ,but if you have been envolved in practicing or academic activities , it is justified .do not forget we can not Compete with the best Graduates , we are just what we are and we have limited capabilities and sources to change the past , but we can always hope and work toward 2marow. Good luck

nima I think teymour zade is good but for each step u need to do alot of test material , the best are on line, use the time mode na devery day .even if you study all the most recent materials and know every thing word by word by heart , you still need to do the tests many times , my point is teymourzadeh 2002 are good and enough , but u need to practice a lopt of tests, I am sure you know about the on line test resources , but send me a Pm if you want to know what is my experience Good luck
