Hi, I am an IMG from india. I graduated in 2001. i was wondering about the possibilites of getting into residency for old graduates like me as all most all programs prefer fresh graduates. Also I dont have green card and will need visa J-1 or H-1. what other factors matter in case of OLD IMG like me. IS there any old IMG from INDIA. PLease do reply someone. Take care.

Hey sufi & drnih......................... keep cool guys.......... I am Img grad 2001..........I have 5 IV's under my belt....89/88 S1/2.....there is hope but not too much......Perhaps I would have had a better chance if I got above 95....Kap notes and Q bank are good for S1.....For S2 ck do kap notes and UW. for cs do FA...nothing more is necesary...anything more is a waste of time....i got this advise but did a lot of overkill by reading a lot more so my scores went down.......pls do try hard for 95 + during ur exam.....its very tough here...and I am realy worried about my chances to match this time . ...pray ing hard.....hope this helps feel free to ask anything relevant..... I applied to a lot of places............I wrote a personal e mail to all PD and PC's .........yea its true it took me 2 days just to send it all off. I had to take leave and sit in front of the computer for the whole time. I made phone calls to the ones who did not respond...collected all + replies ....then made my list of progs which I applied to............I dont know if this is the best way......... ...dont know if it worked ....will see after match......As for scramble....I have not prepared anything special....WIll tie up something a few days before 12th....sorry cant help u there...no idea myself what to do.....If I match I shall send u the list I applied to......2 weeks Obs and 1 US lor(from a Ghora Ghora Ghora...dont ask how I did it Gods grace thats all) but sufy must be haveing a UK lor ...that should work even better......and as for my E ID ....Feel free to PM Me....I am prep for S3 now....Rabbits got to keep gnawing at something u know..... ... Hey all ....we are not old !! Life begins at forty !! Dont give up on your dream......once a doctor always a doctor !! At least i think so....that the medical bug keeps on biting you until you decide you can do it.....and then to your own amazement you find out that you can still do it !! Lets keep our cool and strong will power, pray to God and give it our best shot. Atleast 10yrs from now we will not regret that we didnt even try................. GL and God Bless Us All.

Dear Members, I graduated M.B.B.S. from India in 2001 and completed my internship by 2002. So it has been 5 years. The problem, I feel, is not necessarily that I finished 5 years ago. More specifically, it may be what one has done in the time since they have graduated from med school that really matters. Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond my control, I had to take up full time work in a field which is in no way related to Medicine to support my wife and kids. Those fortunate enough to have worked in a health related setting or who were able to do observer ships or research between the time that they graduated and applying for residency have the best chance of securing residency. Nevertheless, it's never too late. Even now, once my wife starts her career, I hope to get back to my books and hope to be able to get some research papers published or observer ship experience under my belt. Also, if you are able to score in the 90s, then that will leave no doubt with you prospective residency directors that you are still very much thorough with the subject!!!!

Hi All, Nice to read all the positive & optimistic posts. I graduated in '90 from AFMC, completed my internship in '91, worked as a family physician till '01, moved to Canada in '02. Now I am a Canadian citizen & moved to USA in Nov'06. I have read the Kaplan Notes twice, taken the Qbook and have taken the first 22 tests of USMLE World. Plan to take Step 1 in end-Dec/mid-Jan. I took my my first NBME Form today and scored 560 which equals USMLE 232/97. I am facing a challenge regarding filling the Clinical Clerkships' details on the online ECFMG application. One is required to fill in the start and end dates and the name of the supervising physician for each clinical rotation. After all these years, I have forgotten all these details. I would appreciate some advice and suggestions regarding how to fill in these details for the application as I want to apply at the earliest. Thank you.

OLD IMGs ...let me share my experience I have above average scores in step 1 2 and 3 and passed all in the first attempt..I had applied extensively in GS and IM in all programs that did not have a post grad cutoff date as their requirement. Total applications 101. I had no USCE ...but have years of documented clinical non-US experience..No breaks in my career. I did not get a single interview. Whatever may be the reasons..I want OLD IMGs to think twice before going in for USMLE. It is an expensive and time consuming excercise. Though I enjoyed studying for USMLE..people who will only aim at getting a residency as the ultimate goal are likely to end disappointed.

Dear Hotobagha. You are totally right .I made the same mistake.I think THERE IS NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN.The whole process of exams is a business where thousands apply for hundreds of programs. The competition is tough. The sad part of all this is that it all depends on networking and who you know. The worst insult after all your best efforts is to hear "Why did you come? We never called you."It is all a question of supply and demand. They have enough to chose from. The various program directors use their whims and are all powerful to pick and chose and they exploit their powers to total. We come for a better life and in this process lose our most precious peace of mind.God bless US (By US I mean us sufferers not US)
