This was not a wise move. But I would write another email apologizing that you mistakenly asked about your chances, which is a violation of the match rules (dont forget to write it) and you just wanted to know if you will be in the list. Consider 3 points here: 1.if you dont write an email, they will think that you are asking them to violate the match rules; 2. if you just apologize and ask them to disregard your email, they will wonder why you sent it. you will give the idea of a confused person. 3. if you apologize and correct your query as I advised you above, someone might even give you an answer.

and when you say that you just wanted to know if you'll be in the list, dont forget to mention your extrem interest in their program.

i think it's better to apologize than do nothing. think about what you're going to say atleast 10x before emailing them again. think before you act.

Write a simple and short email and explain this to them.

Best way to do this would have been to ask open ended question such as Can U pl let me know if U have made any decision about me and show interest.

u have done nothing wrong. u didnt ask them where exactly they are ranking u. dont precipitate things and just let it be.

This is my opinion and may be different from others this is a move that is not smart aimed at decreasing your anxiety and not getting you ranked higher. the program that replied is not going to rank you probably, but dont send email admiting fault, THIS IS THE WORSE YOU CAN DO. Aologize is no good because you signed an agreement and should have known better. If you admit fault you could be removed from NMRP. Besides, what is banned is to ask "how the program will rank you" which can be argued to some extent to be different than "feedback about your chances" I would refrain myself to send more emails and if you do, they just need to exprss interest without asking open-ended, close-ended, or in any way about your chances. This is information does not help your candidacy, it may help your nerves but not your candidacy. just be patient, and best wishes. ngt

yes, dev, that you can do. please read section 6 of match agreement. 6.0 Restrictions on Persuasion One of the purposes of the Matching Program is to allow both applicants and programs to make selection decisions on a uniform schedule and without undue or unwarranted pressure. Both applicants and programs may express a high degree of interest in each other and try to influence future ranking decisions in their favor, but must not make statements implying a commitment. It is a material breach of this Agreement for a participant in the Matching Program to make any verbal or written contract for appointment to a concurrent year residency position prior to the Matching Program. In addition, although applicants or programs may volunteer how they plan to rank each other, it is a material breach of this Agreement to request such information. Only the final preferences of programs and applicants, as reflected in their final certified rank order lists, will determine the offering of positions and the placement of applicants through the Matching Program.
