Hi everyone
Thank you for your message.
For my preparation, there is nothing special to say.
I was very busy. I took step 2ck on November 22 and managed to take cs on December 6.
But for several reasons, I couldn,t study.
I just studied three days before the exam. I took the course with Dr Swartz several months back. So I just went through his teaching and watched his Cd room on physical exam
My main concern was the patient notes. I managed to have 8 minutes to write and 2 min to read what I wrote to correct all mistakes as my English was a big problem.
I remember all I received like advice from Dr Swartz and just keep close to that.
You are dealing with actors. They want something from you. So you have also to act as an actor and listen carefully to them. They will give you the key for the next question to ask.
I went to this exam opened minded so I won,t get focus on any listing as it is hard to follow the list as soon as the SP get away from that.
You can use whatever you want but remember that, they are testing your ability to listen and to deal with US patients behavior.
That,s what I kept in mind and went to the exam after three days of intensive preparation.
For somebody who is English speaker you already have one part. But for us, non English speaker, you have to focus on the way you speak and not do any mistake. So it is hard to try to remember which question to ask and make it correct before asking.
I just told myself, I am a physician, if someone tell me I have for example an headache. Every body knows what he will ask. As an actor, he will answer and put you on the way for the next question. I just got the PAM HUG FOSS from Robin to not keep me to far away and not forget the essential part.
No matter what you use, stay near the patient. Show compassion, and some feeling for him. He is in need of help. Show him that you will do your best for him.
One big point is to be able to discuss his case before you leave the room. It is very important.
Remember also, It is an outpatient clinic and all cases you are supposed to have in outpatient are able to show up. So just be focus on your SPs and do your best. You will pass I am sure. I am not better than anyone but I did it , than you can also.
