After taking different courses and passing the CS, this is what I found out. Always knock the door. Spend a few seconds thinking of your DD at the doorway so you can ask the right questions. Figure out the system first, which you can do in most cases from the opening scenario Itroduce yourself Memorize the patients last name Start with an open ended question always like how can I help you today After the initial open ended question, use one more if possible like can you tell me more about your pain or symptoms? The SP will give a good deal of info with that in most cases and saves you time, earns extra points for open ended questions Use the Mnemonics LIQORAAA/PAMHUGSFOSS Always counsel the patient on substance abuse etc. On the PN - Should be specific for each pt. Wash your hands (a must) NEVER write down stuff you never did in the examination room Practice at least 12 patient notes timed before taking the exam, the more the better. (If you need some online source to practice, you can use the free PN generator available at usmlesource.com as part of the free cases, it is important to practice the PN's) Explain your impression and plan Ask if the SP has any questions So, let us compile similar things in your reply so that we can build useful list. Thanks
