Hi,

I recently gave my step 3 and failed by a point. I need a h1b visa. I am not even sure if I am eligible for a j1. I wanted suggestions regarding how to proceed now. Do I take step 3 again ASAP or take my time and give it during May or so. If offered a chance, do I go ahead with j1 visa or wait for the next match. I will be grateful for any help. Thanx.

I think you are the one who can answers those questions at best. Check with those programs for the latest date for providing the Step 3 score in order to get the H1 visa. Check when you will get the step 3 score in after the exam. Ask yourself what you wanna do while waiting for the next year match. Ask yourself what is your priority getting into residency this year or get H1 visa in the next year match. AGAIN you and only yourself can answer those questions nod

If you give step three in may, you will start your residency late. Will the PD allow this? Starting late will affect your finishing date, which could affect your fellowship, if that's what you are looking at.

Think carefully!

Thanx a lot, Minang and bbb. Yeah, probably the best solution is to give it again ASAP. Better start working on it right away!
