hi i have a tough schedule i m working part-time so i only get 4-6hrs to study and sometimes i m so tired that i get a little time to cope i m studying from kaplan + golgan 4 pathology i m going through systematically i.e. i m doing embryo, histo,anatomy,physio,pharma,patho from each organ so as to cover all these subjects

Hey all u guys here,
i am from karachi too. my name is naureen i just wanted to know thar have you guys done your housejob or not? i have done my 6 months in surgery then i got ill and now i have to do my remaining housejob. can i study while doing my housejob? or should i just quit? cos i have to appear in step one by jan 2008 at any cost.
please help!//

Bangles it Depends on one thing only Which Match r u planning for if its for the ཅ Match then u will have to be done with Step 1 2 ( CK & CS) by May ང this will give u an edge in the Match Process. Dont Quit ur HouseJob. Trust me if u apply ur knowledge from Step 1 in ur Med or Surgery Wards u will feel more of a connection of whts being done. Housejob if done with whole heartedness will always help u in ur future goals n u know how to adapt in the Hospital envoirnment. Best of Luck on journey towards ur goal.

hey there,
thanks for being so kind enough to reply to my query.. its been a month i was trapped in that confusion/ . i also made up my mind of doing my step 1 and step 2 by may 2008 like u said.
the problem is. can u please tell me if i start my housejob from april till september( 6months)
will i be able to study for step 1 if i plan to give my exam by december ?

Well It entirely Depends on u if u can Manage ur Housejob alongwith studies. Although it wud be advisable to take a break from them in the last 3 mnths before the exm when u have decided to take them. Normally Wht ppl in Pak do is that they prepare for FCPS Part 1 Simultaneously cos the course is relatively the same. And in the long Run it helps. Since UK Borders for Doctors have been Closed there is a lot of Influx coming into US so Atleast by Giving FCPS u have a 2nd option if Visa is an Issue otherwise if u have a chance for Green Card then Skip ur House Job for now then do ur Step 1 n then while doing Step 2 resume ur HouseJob then u might not have to worry abt other things. Just to summarize my points
1. If u have a GC then Skip ur HouseJob n give Step 1 in under 6mnths n then Resume HouseJob while prep for Step2.
2. If u have a Visa Issue then Suggest to do HouseJob while preparing for Step 1 n then u can Give it along with a Prepe for FCPS part 1 ( prep is good for both with a few exceptions) Step 2 becomes a lot easier if u have done ur House Job n give it right after it.

is it true that there is no centre in karachi for usmle step1? and that we have to go to lahore or islamabd to take the exam??

Nope Step 1 is Conducted in Prometric Centre Near DO Talwar Clifton Ask them they will Tell u all abt it. Unless they have shifted to a Different Venue or Closed Shop.

hi everbody..well said new-n-lost ..study for fcps and step1 is almost similar except behaviour..
i had the same plan, preparing for usmle and giving the fcps-1 which ive passed in surgery.
well bangles wat r u upto nowadays? i mean have u started studying or not?

hi everyone its good to see all the Karachites btw new_n_lost as u told that the prometric centre is near do talwar where exactly is it cause its a big place i went there but i couldnt find one can u guide us a little bit is it some where near british embasssy
btw i have heard that if u clear ur step 1 u will be exumpted for fcps part 1 in basic health sciences or something like that is it true

Guys its in the Building a shopping Centre Below n BTW U can call them to ask Directions. I havent been to Karachi in a yr so i dont Know for Sure but if everything hasnt changed then i do remember that there was a hospital in the Same Lane as the Building. I think the Hopital was Mediclinic or Medi Something. Coming from Saddar Cross Teen Talwar thn go thru the Bypass which Used to be the Schon Circle n Right before the Roundabt of 2 Talwar on Ur left will be 2 complexes. Go in the one which has a Underground Parking System go to the 3rd Floor u will find Prometric but if even then call them for further directsion if they havent changed the Address then the above will be the Correct Way.

yes i have finally got my books.. except physio and pharma which i will be getting soon cos it was no available for some reason in the market.. i have to start with my housejob (6months) april and i will try to give the first read during that time.. then i will properly study by sep./lets see what happens! how about you?

thanks new_n_lost i was so worried about this stuff i will inshallah go to the prometric centre today
btw r u done with ur steps and doing residency and can u tell how much ur score counts for a good match bcause people hear say that it all depends on the state where u r applying that is with low scores u can get residency of internal med or peads in a smaller state how much is this true
and plz tell about the fcps exumption if u know
