I have just studied English recently and have a heavy accent.
Initially I intended to take CS after 3 week preparation but I was not confident. Then I met a American guy who failed CS and was told that CS is really a challenging exam, so I decided to postpone my exam for 6 weeks. my Total preparation time is 9 weeks.
People says CS is easy because they prepared well and have no English problem. Be careful, we spend a big money for this exam. If we failed we'd not only waste money but also get depressed affecting other exams. Some people were so overconfident and failed.
About my experience:
- preparation: 9 weeks
- materials: Kaplan, First Aid, USMLE World. I studied FA very carefully and remembered every questions in FA for each chief complaint.
- Practiced with 2 friends by Skype and Yahoo Messenger
- Practice physical exam with my wife (not work in medical field)
- I recorded my own counseling answers, introduction, transition, and closure, based on FA, to my cell phone and listened to them while driving, this helped me memorize. I used the same introduction, transition, closure for all patients.
In my exam, I did exactly as Instructions in FA:
1. Knocked the door and asked "Are you ready?" for all cases
2. Say Hello to SP, used their family name for all cases
3. Introduced myself all cases, used the same introduction for all patients
4. Covered SP before taking history
5. Asked PAMHUGFOSS for all cases
6. Did Heart, Lung, ABdomen examination for all cases. And did focused exams according to chief complaint.
7. Saved 3-4 minutes for closures for all cases, I skipped some physical exams to save time for counseling and closure, but there some patients having lots of problems and I forgot to counsel them about smoking, excercise.
8. I was worry about telephone case, so I prepared it carefully, in my exam I asked every single question in FA for phone case in order to lenghten conversation time. I finished phone cases after 12-13 minutes.
9. Patient notes: I used hand writing and FA way, wrote HPI, ROS, A, M, FA, Soc H, Sex H, vital signs, general appearance, heart, lung, abdomen for all cases.
Hope this helps.
My sincere advice for you is to do exactly as in First Aid, you will rock it for sure.

HELLO DEAR ONES, ERAS TRICK DOES NOT WORK. I TOOK THE EXAM ON NOV 27, THAN IT SAYS NOW ON OASIS TAT MY RESULTS WERE SENT, THAN IN ERAS IT SAYS ECFMG REPORT WAS UPDATED ....... I WAS SO HAPPY TO HEARB ABOUT YOUR TRICK, BUT I CALLED ONE OF THE SECRETARIES OF THE PROGRAMS WHO IS MY FRIEND, SHE DOWNLOADED THE NEW ECFMG STATUS REPORT AND SAID IT IS THE SAME AS THE ONE BEFORE.... SO THE TRICK DOES NOT WORK, SORRY. IT JUST SEEMS TO WORK BECASE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE PASSED ANYWAYS... I AM SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SAD.

hi truedream59, I'm in the sameboat with u , took my exam n first week of December in chicago, no update yet. i called ecfmg asking about the reason of delay, and they said it is not related in anyway to the performance in the exam.
hope we will get our scores this week. good luck.

You passed the exam without taking those 3-day or 5-day training class. That's so amazing. Congratulations Robin!
BTW, do you need to bring your own white coat to the exam? I have no idea about this exam.

have you had your score released, I didn't have anychange. i read on other forums that it updated for some guys on thuresday...
my exam was in chicago....is it possible that this delay is for all applicants took the exam in that center????
