1)How many students overall each programs ranks? This will vary from program to program 2)lets say that a program rank a student number 18 and only have 6 position (Hypothetical situation ) a) It is ok to still ranking that program number one? Why not? b) What is the probability to match there? I'm a program coordinator because I flunked math

By checking the NRMP tables, I notice that overall (with both US seniors and all other applicants) ranking : positions is a little bit greater than 10 : 1. It means on average one program ranks more than 10 people for one position. We all know that good programs tend to rank less and not good ones tend to rank more. So, I believe the general community programs would rank at least 10 people per position. I heard some IM programs even rank all people they interviewed. If I was PD, I would do that. It doesn't hurt. With so many ranking for one position, it is really very difficult to predict the match result, unless you know exactly where you are ranked and you are ranked within the reasonable limit. I am stressed out, too. But, the only thing we can do is crossing fingers. Probably, at the same time, to regret to have taken the steps in hurry and end up not with double 99/99.

Heyyyyyyy Hold on a second What you mean is that a program can rank 3 people number one and 3 people in the number 2 position and so on… I thought that they put an order and if for example you are a number 9 in their list and they only have 6 positions you only need 3 people that say no to match Ok now I am super confused

It's one name per number, I believe. And I think your conclusion for your example is correct. Good luck.

buky: Sure, the ROL from PD is an order list, that means it shows PD's preference. What I got is: on average, 10 people per one position. It doesn't mean that all the 10 on the same preference. It only means that if the program has 10 positions, it would rank more than 100 people. It doesn't mean it would rank 10 people for same one preference( order, whatever). Remember it is from NRMP statistics. It is statistics.
