hi all, need some help. i am just at the very beginning of my study preperation. however i find myself stressing over which books i should get. From my research through this forum i have narrowed down my choices as the following HY anatomy, HY neuroanatomy HY behavioral science HY biochem BRS pathology BRS physiology First Aid kaplan qbank USMLE World qbank i still am not sure on which book to use for pharm. i have also heard alot about the goljan audio tapes as well as the robbins question book is there anything else i should look at and can anyone share there experience studying these books, ie. was it worthwhile and how long did it take and whether you combined it with your own notes. thanks to all, everything seems so overwhelming in the beginning is there anything else i should use

Hi strangelove, funny nick, the books you mention are good, I also asked that question a long time ago and other members of the forum suggested to add the following: Kaplan lecture notes and videos BRS Behavioral science Lippincot Pharmacology and Biochemistry Levinson and Jawetz for immuno and micro I think the best thing is not to use so many books, just stick with kaplan and first aid, and the others are for referal or if you don't understand something in kaplan. Are you planning to match in 2008 or 2009? What specialty are you interested in? Good luck, hope this helps!

Do everything from KAPLAN except Patho. Do it from Goljan. Do FA in the end and as many mcqs as possible after your first read. First read should be fast. Second, start grasping things.

thanks to all for the replies, on the question on when i will be doing the exam, i think sept 07, which seems to be way more time than the average prep i've noticed, however i'm a slow reader ;0) and don't want to leave myself short. on patho, is the consensus that goljan is the best, i noted the book recommendations at the back of 1st aid gives it a B whereas brs gets an A. also about the kaplan notes and video, can anyone tell me in more detail about those, what do they consist of and why are they better. other than that thanks all for your time. i know it is valuable more so now than ever before ;0)

i would say that kaplan notes and their videos cover all that u need for the exam.If u dont have the videos reading the notes would be fine.Pharmac in kaplan doesnt look very good when u first read but i realised after the exam that for pharmac first aid and kaplan notes are sufficient. i agree with the others and would recommend brs for behavioral.Patho i dont think u shld have any doubt just do goljan audio and read goljan notes. Also take down notes while listening to the audio especially his vignettes at the start of each topic. dont read too many diff bks, stick to one set do them repeatedly,do the qbanks, nbme and u shld do well.
