DAY 1

1. Dilemma: how long will it be? 3 days? 1 week? 1 or 2 months?

2. Dilemma: Do I need to review Kaplan step 2 notes? or I can make it with Crush step 3 and UW.

First thing to do: lets start with four UW timed test, just to understand where I stand. If my score is 70% (impossible) I schedule my exam for tomorrow cool. If its 30% shocked, I'll take it next year. We'll see...

Did 150 UW Qs and got 50%. confused. Okay! here is the plan:

1. Exam in 30 days;

2. Review Book: Crush step 3. No Kaplan for now because most of the cases are simple diagnosis and the main issue is management, which is not stressed in Kaplan.

3. 50-60 UW questions everyday. Careful explanation reading.

I'm back after a one-month break. I downloaded step3 notes from internet and started reviewing it. They are very good. I already reviewed gastro, endocrinology and rheuma. Before my UW score was 50% now my gastro, endo and rheu UW score is 72%.

My plan is:

1. rapid reading of Kaplan S2 notes;

2. review Kaplan S3; focus on details;

3 UW

Lets hope for the best.

Can you please share where did you downloaded the Kaplan Step 3 notes?

So the prep here is not good. Exam in 20 days. I do one UW test/day

2 days ago I got 45%; yesterday 50% and today 43%. Often under the average.

But I dont despair; I will not consider UW as a test tool, rather as a study instrument. My strategy is reviewing S2 and S3 notes, take one UW test everyday and read accurately the explanation.

SOmetimes, I have the suspect that the UW explanation's are confusing and contradictory.

Right. UW is very neat picky, so don´t get discouraged with their score. No Qbank is as a good predictor for Step 3. The key for Step 3 is to be confident about yourself and not UW score.

Thanks Silenced.

My application has been accepted. I will take my exam in 17 days.

Today I completed my cardio prep (S2 and S3 notes). I did 25 timed, unused cardio questions and got 90% shocked. Still, low profile must be kept because my average score is very low. I read accurately all the explanations, even those from the right answers and I find it very instructive.

I think the most important point with UW is not how you score but if you understand the points. when you take the exam, you must remember the first diagnostic test in case of claudicatio intermittens, the management of a case of MAT and asthma, etc. If you know all these things you pass.

  #8

Hi, wamba, what is your overall UW score up to now?

  #9

My overall is 52%. Not high but I'm optimistic. I think If you understand all the concepts explained in UW you will pass the exam easily. This is what I'm trying to do. I study a subject and then I take the timed unused questions and then I review all the questions. I've been doing it 3 days and my average is around 77%. I dont want to crush step 3, just be above 80.

I'm also reviewing the tests I already took and I find it a very interesting learning tool. it helps me solve some confusion I had in my mind. An example of confusion I used to make:

A 70 y.o man has diabetes (glycemia 170), LDL 140, hypertension (BP 160/95), 40 years history of 1PPD and he drinks 2 beers everyday.

1. Among the above, what is the most important single risk factor for the MI he will have in 3 months?

2. you are his doctor and you know he will have a MI in 3 months (God told you that in dreamswink); what risk factor can you correct to decrease the most the likelihood of that event?

2.

LDL

- 14 days

Today I have completed the review of hematology and oncology; plus, I did all the UW questions and reviewed the answers. SOme questions are really weird. Some questions are failed where really tricky and frustrating.

hey wamba

good going

i read in the early part of your post you had ommited kapnotes from prep material but now u r doing them quite religiously

do i need to read both step two and three notes or are step three notes enough

  #13

I have been a little bit confused with this prep. First, I ommited kaplan S2. Then I decided to review it, and I reviewed gastro, endo, cardio, rheuma and pneumo. But it is very time consuming to review both S2 and S3. Now I'm reviewing only S3 and I learn from UW. I found that CCS is also a very interesting study stool. I'm practising ten cases everyday.

  #14

50 UW questions today; 44%; I really suck.

  #15

Cheer up wamba, you are doing fine. As long as you overall is 50% or above, you should do fine on the exam.
