The agent is known as a "clot buster",bacause of its mechanism of action:it binds to fibrin in a thrombus and converts the entrapped plasminogen to plasmin,wich initiates fibrinolysis and essentially dissolves the thrombus Since tPA is a thrombolytic,bleeding {hemorrhage} is the most common complication or side effect

that's right, but could allergic reaction also happen?

Allergic reaction could happen with any drug. But regarding thrombolitics, think risk for allergy = streptokinase (when the patient has antibodies against Streptococcus). With tPA, the risk for hemorrhage is much greater.

thanks arlete, I agree with you; I read somewhere that streptokinase wiould have no effect if patient received streptokinase in previous two years
