hey guys, im new to this forum. just wanted some advice on the timing of the step one examination. i am currently in my last year of medical school in pakistan and wanted to know if it is possible to give the examination along with my studies. Am trying for a match as soon as i graduate which is jan 2008. is it possible??

hi i m a graduate from pakistan & m preparing 4 step 1 believe me its good that u give ur step during ur studies cause ur used to giving exams plus u r in final year this gives u a plus point as u know ur clinicals as well as ur basics so its not that difficult as far as u can cope with both basic and clinical sciences keep it up btw where in pakistan r u

Hi Nazisha,
I agree it is an advantage if you do the MLE's during your studyies or soon after.
But if you say you graduate in Jan 2008, you have to be ECFMG certified to apply to residency program and for that you need your medical diploma, so you can start doing the exams, but you would have to submit your papers on September 2008, so that you can match in 2009.
So you can schedule step 1, step2 ck, and step 2 cs, starting from now up to July or August 2008, so you will have all your grades in Sep 2008 and apply for the match.

I am old grad from Pakistan too. Do step 2 CS and CK then go for Step 1. If you are doing house job you can manage step 2 in it. If you have american green card or nationality then forget about house job and do all in a row and study full time.
