A 14-year-old female presents to her family practice physician for a school physical. Her only complaint is pain in her left calf and ankle. She has no significant medical history. Family history is significant for a father who died at age 30 of a myocardial infarction and a paternal uncle who died at age 36 of a myocardial infarction. Her paternal grandmother died in her 40 s of an unknown cause. The physical exam reveals soft, yellowish elevated plaques on both of her eyelids.
